Linux@lemmy.ml•Why are so many Linux projects on Microsoft GitHub? Shouldn't they all move to Codeberg?
1·16 days agoThis is also a reason why some are against RedHat distributions (eg Fedora) or products (systemd, pulse audio). If you don’t like to support the company and have an alternative, take the alternative.
Have you considered other sellers? Slimbook? System76? Framework? Etc.

2·18 days agoJust to give some relevant information: Git, the major program behind GitHub, has been developed by Linus Torvals. The license allowed the free use of git until today. Some people took git and built a web application around - GitHub was born. Sure they added some features, but the engine was git! In 2018 these “creators” of GitHub sold their product to Microsoft. They gave a s**t on the community and what may happen afterwards.

4·1 month agoI have not large doubts that he and even some people in his position elsewhere can be replaced by AI. We could save a hell lot of money and be even more productive!

1·2 months agoYou forgot to mention in your list GNU Icecat, though the logo is there. From the list I favour also LibreWolf and the Torproject, though some others are wonderful like Otter, Helium, Qutebrowser, surf or Nyxt.
Perhaps this one:
Proton Mail -> Tuta Mail
Why? I would be careful with Proton Mail b/c it presumably advocates the Swiss surveillance and security law, which allows to keep information for a longer period of time.
BTW, you can add:
GitHub -> Codeberg (or Forgejo)
