a better option that doesn’t require specific steps depending on your TV model is just to use a small media PC strapped to the back. and then disable network access for the TV. the benefit of this is that when you buy a new PC, you don’t have to do any research to find out which ones you can jailbreak, because any TV works.

you can then control the media PC with a cheap Bluetooth keyboard/touchpad combo. there are plenty of models available that are no bigger than a large remote and have excellent battery life.

well for one, you don’t even need play services for all apps downloaded from the play store. and for another, even for the ones that do need it, play services run as an unprivileged sandboxed app, the same as any. so it can’t enforce anything google wants because it has zero control over anything.

I have a “smart” TV, but it has never been connected to the internet for reasons such as this. Also I don’t want it spying on me, which is a thing society has to deal with now for some reason, and we just let it happen.
