The blog post did not acknowledge the situation, but the list showed that they stopped supporting Omarchy and kept support for Hyprland. It was noted during the drama that Hyprland’s toxicity levels have dropped since they set up a moderation team. Their reputation might not represent them as they are currently.

The advice is decent actually. It’s the non-advice comments that should just be deleted. Even the advice from that .ml guy is careful. Wouldn’t have caused any issue if someone didn’t pick the fight while fully aware that there will not be a resolution.

From what OS, and for which activities?

Generally, I would advise vibe checking with a Ventoy USB and a live .iso. See if you find your marks, and can do basic stuff. Ventoy will allow you to try different distros in relatively quick succession

They probably gave up on preventing cheat entirely, and are just trying to reduce the amount of cheaters by making cheating as annoying as possible.

I do actually believe them when they say that cheating on Linux can be made significantly easier and more comfortable than on Windows. I think it’s a real fundamental issue for Linux, multiplayer games with toxic playerbases can be unplayable due to users being able to do what they want. They would have to make systems to allow for playing in smaller human-moderated servers, or rely purely server-side solutions

I don’t even know where to google around. 90% of the sites I find are “download and run our proprietary not-a-virus” and I have no way of knowing which ones are legit

The settings app for gnome is pretty centralized and discoverable. There’s not much customization option, but it’s fine for normal users.

Once upon a time I had an outdated computer running Windows, and got good at fixing it. So I started fixing my grandparents and cousins computers, and they started calling me when they had an issue. 9 years ago I switched to Linux (which fixed every issue I had), and now when they ask me to fix their Windows 11 I just sit in front of the thing with a blank stare.
