  • I think it’s always fine to use AI stuff as intermediary material, but almost never as finished product unless you specifically need something that feels samey and average.

For world building it’s pretty cool cause you can finally visualize that city that you’ve spent time imagining in detail, and use that to sharpen your description of it or spot incongruities. And for writing in general there’s nothing wrong with story boarding scenes and characters to ground your writing if you have more of a visual mind. Anything that helps you on your specific craft without bogging down the quality of the finished piece.

  • You don’t hire interns for productivity

Because it’s unethical. I’ve been in business for 10+ years but i never hired an intern because i don’t find it fair to make someone work for less than minimum wage, and i don’t have the structure required to really teach them anything. I have bad fundamentals and only ever learnt by doing, so having an intern while it may help me wouldn’t really help them and that’s not a deal i’m willing to make. Probably why i’m not super successful lol

That being said, i don’t see any problem with making a GPU cry somewhere in California for my menial tasks. And it’s tremendously effective too, for a hundred bucks a month i get a lot of shit done that would take me ages. I don’t give it access to anything critical so it can’t fuck my shit up and i come out on top as long as the tokens are subsidized by dumb VC money.

I think disclosure is good and should be tackled as soon as possible because being transparent in your communication is just good practice in general.

However I feel like this will soon be rendered useless as all projects will move to agentic (or otherwise ai-assisted) coding.

Maybe there’ll be a movement of hand coded FOSS but realistically they’ll have a hard time. Resources are already tight for most projects, and rejecting productivity in favor of aesthetics is a rich guy’s strategy.

  • Interestingly NASA had an idea of a plan that sounds at least technically possible, but it’s a multi-decade operation and doesn’t look anything like what the current startups are pitching. Of course you can have your data centers in space, why the fuck not, but a data center sits on top of a lot of boring old infrastructure which nobody’s excited to talk about.

It’s going to be prohibitive if you have to pay the gravity tax every time you want to move 1 ton of metal, so realistically this kind of high-tech project cannot even begin without having substantially industrialized the moon. Nothing fancy but you’ll need at least some mining and refining, and solid trans-lunar logistics routes. Probably some housing for a bit of personnel too. At that point the space data center would be dwarfed by the size of its own support system.
