Wtf are you talking about. We do use ML for basic maintenance predictions. In general it’s useless though.

I’m a controls engineer who literally installs automation systems. AI is mostly useless in our industry, Claude barely scratches the surface of what we do. The coding is somewhat simple. The problem is how difficult the physical interaction is.

Having worked with Chinese controls people, they arent any better than the US engineers often they are significantly worse. No idea why. The guys from Mexico are way better from my experience.

We are all arguing different hypotheticals. My problem is my personal experiences.

One of them was a rapist. The other was a high level tech salesman child abuser. So I’m 2 for 2 and my opinions are skewed forever.

I don’t mean strictly professional honesty, but my experiences leak into how I view something like this. The biggest liar I know is still in jail for raping children, so I have a skewed view of honesty.

My industry and group are weird when it comes to credentials. We don’t have a strict, you need this degree situation.

I value honesty more than most people I’m realizing. If a hire is open about their credentials I would not care.

I’ve witnessed what happens when people are ok with liars. It’s gross, and no one should normalize it.

Honesty is my problem with it. If they were open about it I wouldn’t care. But if they hid it and were hired because of the degree I’d fire them almost regardless of their work.

It’s something I value because dishonest people are usually quite horrible in my life experience.

I dont know how I feel about this.

On one hand, degrees are somewhat good for education in lots of industries.

On the other hand, I would fire someone instantly if they had cheated their degree like this.

Degrees are also very expensive.

I guess if it was a useless degree then it wouldn’t matter in the first place.

We have our clients switch to Linux now. Ignition works well enough and it’s so much cheaper. It has drawbacks compared to wonderware, or the Siemens stack though. But I’ll take those issues over logging into their systems still running on winXP.

The slowness was mostly a hardware issue. It’s basically like driving a second monitor, and a lot of the slower phones struggled with it early on.

They would probably have a panic attack if they learned about megasquirt. Cars being locked down is so unnatural that most of their design allows them to be controlled by open source solutions.

All of Microsoft office products haven’t changed for the good in more than a decade. I still use office 2007 on my personal desktop and 90% of the features and buttons are in the same spot as the current office 365 offering.

The one person I know who owns a cyber truck was upset when I didn’t call him when I had a truck needing emergency, my wife’s car had broken down on a freeway offramp. Any company will market that its ideas are possible. The article you linked is promising, but take it with a huge grain of salt. They are moving the goalposts the whole article. Flat graphene is a great material for space elevators, but it can’t currently be created without defects. Polycrystaline means the graphene created includes defects sort of. It means the graphene they created that is km’s long has shitloads of places where cycle loading will cause it to fail way under (like 10%) of its expected load carrying capacity.

Extreme doubt on strong enough. The author of this article barely understands the words they are using. Cool it strain hardens, so do so many other materials. Cool it’s tough like many other materials. Wow it has more links than others. No actual numbers about toughness, yield, ultimate strength, cycle limits, etc. It’s great research, but it absolutely isn’t going to magically solve the space elevator issue.

I’ve just read Dune, Messiah, and I’m part way through children of dune. Wow, they are much better than the movies. So many themes were dropped to make it more palatable, and I have no idea how they are going to do the storyline from messiah in the third movie.
