Today, the next release of monocles chat is finally ready and published, and will be available in stores in the next few days. It is a huge update with three fundamental new features:
Stories, Feeds, and Phone log.
In addition to many other improvements and features such as account sorting and improved message deletion, this update also brings new support for multiple XEPs. Thanks to the standardization of XMPP, it is now possible to interact socially with other XMPP platforms and messengers. The new features bring more functions that are fully compatible with the XMPP web platform @movim@piaille.fr Create your stories today or make a post for your contacts in monocles chat or Movim.

Why would I want to write and read blog posts in my messenger? It’s great to see this client being actively developed, I just wonder about the use-case.
Maybe not write them on a mobile app, but reading them seems no different than for example reading posts on your Mastodon or Lemmy app.
I agree that integrating a Mastodon or Lemmy app into an XMPP app wouldn’t make much sense, but since these blogs are XMPP native, it is really just some interface work to be able to see them in the app.
Aside from that, many commercial messenger apps have started integrating feed like features for getting news and so on. So people are somewhat getting used to have these things in their messenger apps and also ask for this to be available in XMPP apps.

Then it is just a different philosophy, mine is: Do one thing and do it well :D
