no cost
I think the head of a CEO somewhere just exploded.
and every conservative congresscritter, for some reason. ‘couldn’t this be done in the private sector’
CEOs are usually not relying as much on taxes. That’s why it’s free, this is a way to justify tax usage by developing public outreach.
Walmart CEO definitely relies on taxes, food stamps, WIC, and other programs. ISP CEOs took tax money for Internet upgrades and did nothing. Multiple bailouts for business that they squandered on stock buyback.

I posted on Lemmy about needing recommendations for movies to watch on shrooms…and then minutes later stumble across this article.
Talk about perfect timing, lol.
This is really starting to feel like a perfect replacement for that…other website.
Monty python and the holy grail and/or life of brian.
So long as Holy Grail is first
I have a huge list of trippy & visual movies, tons of variety if you’re interested in picking through it for ideas: https://letterboxd.com/bee_tea/list/background-movies-for-house-parties
heavy on the sexual stuff (for house parties) but awesome list, you picked off 99% of what I’d probably go for but would add 2001, The Shining, liquid television, paprika and tron heh.
thanks for sharing inspiration!
MST3K is my goto 🍄
In my Humboldt opinion, it doesn’t matter what I watch as long as I consume enough shrooms. I watched Hot Tub Time Machine the last time. It was great.
I took too much and had a really bad trip watching “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2”
Were you completely lost because you hadn’t seen the first one?
Hey, at least it wasn’t angry birds!
Since other people are giving trippy recommendations I would like to suggest Fantastic Fungi and The Colors Of Infinity. FF is a fantastic mushroom documentary excellently made. Colors Of Infinity is a public domain documentary about the mandelbrot set fractal. Its presented by Arthur C. Clarke and original music by David Gilmore of Pink Floyd fame. I curated a list of links to watch it and other fractal documentaries for free here.
The new show “Scavengers Reign” reminds me of tripping a bit and is actually very good.
Pink Floyd’s The Wall
You trying to give them lasting psychological trauma?
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
I’m a big cyberpunk fan so I enjoy Robocop and Akira. Disney animation is also good like Encanto in 4k on an OLED TV will give you a religious experience as you’re peaking.
With this being a free service, I feel like calling it NASA+ is a bit misleading. To me, I feel like the “+” indicates a paid, premium service. If it wasn’t for the title of this post that clarifies that it’s free, I probably wouldn’t have even considered installing the app based on the name, alone.
Either way, this is great news! I’m probably gonna check this out once it’s available. I wish they’d have a release date, though. The official page just says “Coming soon”.
It may mean, NASA content plus other content they feel is appropriate to the service.
I don’t usually think “paid service” when I see the plus symbol added to something.
Huh. There’s no geolock on this either? Fantastic. As a Canadian I tend to get blocked from this kind of stuff. This will be super cool. Might even replace my LCARS screensaver after years of use
Ever since Canada created the elegantly named “Canadarm”, NASA and Canada have been besties.
To say nothing of possibly the greatest Astronaut to fly to the Space Station: Chris Hadfield
The US federal science agencies are generally pretty happy with sharing things. If it’s free to the US public, it’s free to the world and I love that. Best possible use of my tax dollars.
(We also share weather and hurricane data with the Caribbean countries, for example. None of them could individually afford what the US is doing, so I’m happy we share.)
flying toasters screensaver for life!
We know it’s ad-free and zero cost, but will it be DRM-free as well?
Most NASA stuff is published under non affiliation free use license - you can do what ever you like with it.
you can do what ever you like with it.
RIP to the videos on Uranus.
cheap for what you get
…or about 3% of the military budget. Quite a bargain.
Maybe you’s could do a similar thing for healthcare and get healthcare for free, like this new nasa+ thing. Wouldn’t that be wild
But what about the profits of insurance companies that act as gatekeepers to your healthcare?? Are those people just supposed to get different jobs? Bet you didn’t think about who you would be hurting
Sarcasm
The funny thing with tax is you don’t get choose how it’s spent. Tax money is public money that ought to be spent in the public interest, and NASA is a perfectly good example of this. Other good examples are infrastructure, parks, public healthcare and free education. Bad examples of tax expenditure are the ridiculous military complex, massive corporate subsidies and contractors doing poor work that the government should be directly controlling.
*Previously on Desperate Spacewives…
Sam has just kicked out of the airlock apartment by his wife Karen. Would his other woman save him from radiation and lack of oxygen? Tune in to this episode of Desperate Spacewives
Nice
If it’s called NASA Plus, how is it free? The “plus” means it goes a step beyond their free content and into a paid tier.
Don’t get me wrong this is absolutely fantastic I adore NASA and space, but they’re just be some hidden cost? Otherwise it wouldn’t be a streaming service called NASA Plus, right?
