Radioactive isotopes in meteorites suggest that a supernova erupted in the vicinity of the solar system as it was forming.

    If a nearby star went supernova, should we have a black hole or a neutron star in our backyard? A quick Googling says that the closest neutron star is 400 light years away and the closes black hole is 1560 light years. Would that be close enough to provide all of this radiation?
