How is hyprland better than Niri or Cosmic built on Smithay which are at least written in an over hyped safe modern language. Why are some d-list tech celebs dotfiles better than my quickshell config? And how about we sponsor something that would make a real difference to people like better accessibility in Gnome and KDE or is that too woke these days?

Separating the art from the artist is not a black and white thing…Like a lot of people worked on the harry potter movies and many people fell in love with those before reading the books, and when Rowling went anti-trans, you could reasonably argue that the films were a collaborative work that you can still love. But this? A pre-configured Arch made by one guy who makes his headline presence maligning minorities? I don’t see how giving money to him is anything other than a company saying his views are explicitly endorsed by the donor.

For anyone who is struggling to figure out how to delete their DigitalOcean account (it’s not obvious):
- In Account Settings, delete all of your teams
- This redirected me to a different setting page with an option to deactivate my account
- Click Deactivate Account
- Select the checkbox to purge your account data
- Confirm that you’d like to deactivate and purge your account
- (Optional but recommended) Fill out the exit survey and tell them that they’re supporting a neo-Nazi
- In Account Settings, delete all of your teams
So pissed; just found out about this Saturday, so I spent Saturday evening checking out the VPS providers, and Sunday moving everything over, re-importing data, dealing with DNS caching delays, etc. I had other plans this weekend. I was a fan of DO, even have DOCN shares, which I’m going to dump.
Well, at least, if everything works out with OVH, I’ll have double the RAM and be paying less than half of DO.

Omarchy is an Arch-based Linux distribution created by a person with questionable political views. Many in the Linux community will go great lengths to ensure not a single penny of theirs gets into his hands.
He doesn’t have “questionable” political views, unless you consider open xenophobia and fascism no more than questionable. He went beyond questionable a while ago and into being truly unpleasant and promoting harmful ideas.
Left-of-center people hate DHH and by extension everything he does and everyone he networks with because “he’s a fascist”.

Meanwhile the maintainers of the project it’s based on are unpaid.
I don’t like dhh and I think someone like him shouldn’t control this much money going into foss but I think the point of omacom is to pay those maintainers
