Consent-O-Matic selects what cookies you want (you choose in the preferences), but the last commit was last year (due to the fact that those who work on the project have less time, see https://github.com/cavi-au/Consent-O-Matic/issues/591#issuecomment-4845151993 and https://github.com/cavi-au/Consent-O-Matic/issues/600#issuecomment-5559403316).

Does anyone know of any alternative that is similar and staying updated? Preferably have Firefox and Chrome add-ons.

(if there is a better community to post this question to, please let me know which it is)

ublocks “cookie notices” filter is enough.

consent-o-matic still works though. Why would an update be urgent if it’s still working fine?

I believe the filter just hides the cookie banner (which I believe on many sites means you accept all), where consent-o-matic actually accepts & rejects according to your preferences.

Regarding why an update, as there are many sites that it doesn’t automatically accept/decline, and having an update will have it done automatically rather having to manually set.

which I believe on many sites means you accept all

apparently that depends on where you are

Opt-in consent is the standard under GDPR — implied consent is not valid

You must block non-essential cookies before consent — anything else is non-compliant

Non-essential cookies are blocked until the user gives consent.

“Opt-out consent” model is more common in regions with less stringent data privacy regulations, such as under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

The inbuild adblocker of the Vivaldi browser also do it, skipping the cookie advices with the selected (deselected) cookies (I don’t care about Cookies and Easy list Cookie list filters), also by the settings in web page permissions.

Apart also by the filters of the Portmaster app which avoid that there enter any unwanted crap in the system.
