What in the actual fuck is going on? These encoders are smart people obviously, but the decision to only release HYBRID files rather than also releasing the P5 sources are absolutely fucking insane. These encoders have been around for years and all of a sudden they’re all doing this. Like what the actual fuck is happening out there? I feel like I only started seeing this bullshit happening right after Rarbg went down.

Many encoders just slap the hdr10/+ and the P5 streams together, not realizing or not caring that they are graded differently. This is sloppy work and it’s bullshit. If you wanna make a p8 hybrid that’s fine…IF you also release the P5 master. I see hdr10 only versions but not the P5 only versions. It’s infuriating.

thats… interesting… I myself would rather just serve P5 and a converted HDR. as different encodes at that point.

also what tool was used to generate this? seems like a nifty tool.

That’s what I’m sayin! I totally agree. Hybrids are fine if you also serve the P5 source. I mean a lot of us are purists. So it just seems odd to only have hybrids. I just don’t get it.

I’m assuming they use makemkv or dovitool or something. Idk how to do it.

just to make sure im understanding correctly: is it better to get a HDR only encode than hybrid?

I’m more a purist. So if a show was streaming profile 5 Dolby Vision, I’d much rather prefer that over a hybrid format in case the P5 version was graded differently than the HDR10 version.

If a blu-ray is HDR10 only, I’d prefer the HDR10 blu-ray over a hybrid that adds Dolby Vision RPU.

In other words, I’d prefer the original format that the media was mastered in. No funny business!
