Richard Stallman is the textbook definition of “domain matter expert.” When it comes to software and his philosophy of the four freedoms of software; everyone should heed his warnings.

When it comes to everything else, take what this man says with a grain bottle of salt.

Now if you identify as a Stallman-sexual because you have a toe jam fetish; I’m not going to kink shame you for it.

I disagree and I think people who say that aren’t very familiar with what he says on his blog. He spent his whole life fighting for justice and freedom, not just in software. He has many interesting opinions on other topics as well and I agree with many of them. For example, I agree that we should reject the term “sexual assault”, because it’s too vague and can mean almost anything, so instead we should use more precise terms. I’m not saying that he is never wrong, though.

I think it’s sad that someone uploaded a video of him doing something embarrassing just to make fun of him and other people share it. I wish people didn’t behave like that.

While RMS is a person who loves to argue on semantics; this argument comes from his friend being accused of sexual assault. “Oh my friend was accused of sexual assault… when you think about it what really is sexual assault?” (This is not a direct quote, I’m just making a point.)

I think it’s sad that someone uploaded a video of him doing something embarrassing just to make fun of him

This was during a conference and he was being asked a question. The most you can complain about is it went viral (or that he did this in public).

I know and he was right. There was no evidence of Minsky assaulting anybody. I don’t think they were friends, though.

that’s one of the reasons why I disagree with people dunking on zuckerberg. they almost always make fun of his appearance.

it’s the ideas that matter, not the appearance.

Above 13 they’re teenagers developmentally, even if they’re legally minors. I’m not saying adults should have sex with them, but they’res a clear difference between a 4 year old and a 15 year old.

Yeah, but pair it with the exact wording of how Stallman walked back the paedophilia comment:

Many years ago I posted that I could not see anything wrong about sex between an adult and a child, if the child accepted it.

Through personal conversations in recent years, I’ve learned to understand how sex with a child can harm per psychologically.

I haven’t read all of that, but I agree with most of it. No one should have sex with a non consenting partner, but there is a real pattern in society where people want to exaggerate sexual misdemeanours that people have done and call it pedophilia or sexual assault, as a sort of clickbait, when it is in reality more minor. I am also against other forms of clickbait or dishonest attention grabbing tactics, to remain consistent.

And other people see any criticism of the rapidly expanding sphere of things which get categorised as sexual crimes as siding with abusers, rather than a more thoughtful approach.

His mistake was thinking that pedophilia is only harmful when children are forced to do it. Fortunately he changed his mind. But I agree with many of his other opinions like rejecting the term “sexual assault”, because it’s too vague and can mean almost anything, so more precise terms should be used instead.

People that hate him, criticize him for almost anything. Even for calling someone an “Emacs virgin”. And if they can’t find anything, they misquote him like they did during the MIT Epstein scandal.

Didn’t he changed his mind after learning it wasn’t okay?

He changed his public statements after huge backlash. He supported pedophilia for decades and after he got bad press to a degree it reached parts of the wider public he suddenly had an actual change of heart? No way.

By supported you mean he wrote a few posts about it on his blog. Later he talked to some pedophilia victims and they made him realise how harmful it is. What is so impossible about it?

There was about a decade’s gap where he could have changed his opinion.

In fact, during the MIT CSAIL scandal it’s apparent that he did, since he noted that Epstein’s victims were absolutely coerced into pretending they were willing when they were not (which certain news outlets I will not name spun into “stallman says they were willing”), and he also said Epstein is not described harshly enough.

Of course, you’re free to dislike him or even disbelieve what I just said, but you can’t deny that what he says about software is damn near prophecy.

I’m a big fan of most of the teachings of RMS, but his views on sexuality are a bit questionable. Parrots are ok though

    https://rms.sexy

    The parrot story from 2010:

A parrot once had sex with me. I did not recognize the act as sex until it was explained to me afterward, but being stroked on the hand by his soft belly feathers was so pleasurable that I yearn for another chance. I have a photo of that act; should I go to prison for it?

Its url is also very nice: https://stallman.org/articles/extreme.html

As a parrot owner, I’d like to interject for a moment. The first few times a bird tries this on you it may be amusing and you may even think you’re doing it a favour, but after a while the bird will get frustrated because it knows something is amiss. They will then get angry and often bite or turn to self-destructive behaviours like plucking their feathers.

tl;dr allowing a parrot to use you sexually is not good for the parrot and is morally dubious for the human too

But did you know he also likes to engage in rhinophytonecrophilia?

I often enjoy rhinophytonecrophilia (nasal sex with dead plants)

Here is the source. Why is nobody talking about this?! /s

He has a funny story about it too: https://stallman.org/articles/texas.html

but his views on sexuality are a bit questionable

I don’t know, I agree with many of them. There was one I didn’t agree with, but he changed his mind about that.
