I just got my Framework 16 DIY version and I can’t install the primary SSD because there is a captive screw in the place that holds the SSD down and I can’t remove it so the SSD doesn’t stay held down. There is a screw for the secondary SSD and it comes out. Any ideas?
Update: I got it out, anyone else with this issue, try and pull the screw out it’s very small on the threads so it just pulls out and pushes back in when the drive is seated.
Ok if the screw is rotating but not coming out, try the magnet trick, or try using a bit of glue to pull it out. If its rotating but not coming out at all, you can use a Dremel to cut the head off the screw.
If the screw isn’t rotating at all (and your driver is rotating in a static screw head stripping it) then you can try a pair of vise grips, or other metal grippy device and grab the outside of the screw head and apply firm and consistent pressure to break the friction lock that has developed.
Worst case, RMA the motherboard if you can’t remove the screw.
From your photo the teeth in the screw look a little chewed up, so I think your driver is slipping when you turn. You might want to use a larger driver and apply more downward pressure while rotating to ensure it doesn’t slip between the teeth.
Hey I got it out. I had to use some pliers and pull it out, which is weird since it wasn’t really screwed in and it did t seem stripped. When putting the SSD back in it didn’t screw in, it just sort of snaps back into the hole. It holds the drive in so that works. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
