Linux users are incredible in their belief that issues of privacy, security, or data autonomy will push the masses away from what they’re used to (OSX/Windows, Facebook/Reddit, etc) and towards better options (Linux, Lemmy, Mastodon, etc)

No, mate, absolutely nothing is gonna happen to Windows. It’s gonna be perfectly fine. If we’re lucky, there will be a 1-3% dip in user base towards Linux, but there’s exactly 0% chance for a mass exodus that would make the upper management stop and think for a second.

I think you’re extremely confused as to what Proton is and the service they offer.

I also think it’s because you’re falling (or have fallen) into the tribalist view of “if you’re not with us, you’re against us, and if you’re against them, you’re with us”.

Proton is a-political, pro-agenda. Their agenda is “net neutrality, privacy, security”. They don’t care who makes that happen, and will support anyone who fights for these things.

They won’t take an antifascist position because that would put them on the political spectrum.

I also understand that - to you - not making that statement already puts them on the political spectrum, in the opposing camp, but that’s, again, due to the tribalist views.

They’ve praised left-wingers and right-wingers, they’ve criticised Democrats and Republicans - as long as anyone pushes for their agenda, they will praise them, as long as someone threatens their agenda, they will criticise them. That’s all there is to it.

For what it’s worth - apparently they said they’re crafting a response fairly early, kept one of the original threads and removed the rest as duplicates.

TLJ would’ve been a great third film in a trilogy. It absolutely sucks balls as the second film. It killed practically all the story lines from the first, leaving basically nothing for the third, including the main bad guy. Hux would’ve never been a good “ultimate enemy”, and if Kylo Ren became one, it would completely overturn everything the previous eight films worked on.

Romulus is phenomenal. If you haven’t already, I do recommend watching it. Through the whole thing I felt like I’m watching the best bits of Alien and Aliens stitched together.

I really enjoyed the Dark Watsit, the one with Mackenzie Davis.

Hmm… Kind of a weird take considering the Prequels had no blowing up of any super weapons, and the Sequels had only one, in the first film.

Yes, that was exactly the point I was making.

The “primary” distros would be Arch, Debian, Fedora, and NixOS.

Anything that grew out of those (with NixOS being to young for that yet, I think), is going to run basically identically, and since they all grow from the same kernel, at a fundamental level they also behave similarly.

Like, if you switch from macOS to Windows, you see fundamental differences in how things operate. If you switch from Fedora to Arch, you need to learn the new package manager syntax, but the rest is still Linux.

I’m simplifying, but I think you know what I mean.

It’s not a problem that’s going to pop-up during a “let’s use XYZ for ## days” challenge.
