I am not familiar with that, I’m guessing potato supreme is a username or something?
Not everyday i agree with ISPs but here we are. Guilty of and accused of are two very different things. Innocent until proven guilty.
I tried umbrel and wasnt super impressed. It seemed like it would function alright for the small amount of things i was trying to do but broke shortly after installing. I set up pihole and i think jellyfin since i was just testing it out on an older laptop.
I’ve heard decent things about CasaOS but have not used it myself.
Shocked I tell you. I am shocked.
Brother printers are your best bet. And maybe try sudo.
I will have to give this a go then on Fedora because i would rather not reinstall for a third time since switching lol. I appreciate the advice.
When i last checked, the copr for yabridge was out of date but i was looking at this months ago and its also entirely possible i was looking in the wrong place or was reading information that was out of date.
Again, very much appreciate the help. Linux is still a new thing for me so any help is always welcome.
I have looked at Fedora jam, my issue with it is the same issue I currently have with no way to use yabridge that I could find though this may have chnaged since i last looked.
AV linux does look promising, just haven’t deep dived on it yet. My concern was that its done by a single dev iirc but again i haven’t done a deep dive quite yet.
And also a huge fan of reaper. Been using it for years now and I love it so very solid recommendations. I appreciate it. :)
Welcome brother.
Yea I switched from Windows to Fedora and aside from issues with music production, I have been happy with the switch. Its a weight off my mind knowing i dont have to worry about Windows stealing my data anymore.
I’m probably going to be switching to Ubuntu or something Ubuntu based since it seems it will be a bit easier to work with for making music. Not that Fedora hasnt been great in general but i think my specific needs like having yabridge for Windows vsts is making me consider switching.
What are you doing step-LAN?
Great question that I dont have an answer for. Maybe one of the foundations that supports Linux development? This is just my hope though. No idea what it would really take to maintain Firefox at this point. Maybe if it was scaled down or something it’d be ok in the hands of just the open source community as a whole but I’m not well versed in programming or development so i dont know.
I gotta try and be optimistic about this kinda stuff because i forsee a future where Google just ruins more and more of the internet and i hate the thought of that.
While I do want competition in the web space, its a good thing that Google could get told to stop doing stuff like this.
I dont want Mozilla to die of course but companies need to be held responsible for all the shit they pull. I’d imagine if Mozilla wasnt able to maintain firefox anymore it would fall to the open source community like they said in the article and I’d probably still use it.
No one company should own the internet.
I think you’re definitely in the majority on lemmy with this take but i agree.
I have a “smart tv” that has never even seen WiFi because i prefer having control over my hardware. My media pc is all i need. I even got a little remote for an air mouse and keyboard combo that works just fine for me.
Its redhat, nyuk nyuk nyuk. https://www.redhat.com/en/technologies/linux-platforms/enterprise-linux
Or maybe Carmen is a Linux user idk i just work here man.
No company or entity should have the ability to sell my information. And at the very least not have access to it without my consent.
Especially if it influences how much I pay for insurance. Next thing you know, if you live near a McDonalds, your health insurance is gonna go up.
If you dont need the drive to be fast and want best bang for your buck storage capacity, HDD is the way to go.
If you want speed and are ok with a higher price, SSD is best. Used enterprise HDD are usually a good value. Im in the US so not sure about where to purchase exactly.
Something to consider is if the drive you are storing the os and files on are the same, using am HDD will make it slower on start up.
Yea you’re not wrong. Kinda fed up with most smartphone manufacturers these days. Its all so restrictive. And to your point that Google is one of the only manufacturers that allows the bootloader to be relocked, thats for now. No telling what will happen in the future which is another part of my issue.
At one point i was considering making a small pc out of a raspberry pi or something to replace my phone just cause i dont like the way phone manufacturing in general is going lol.
Kinda silly but i still think about it.
Thats pretty cool! My only gripe is I dont really wanna buy a pixel phone and I think there are unofficial roms for other android devices but idk if its worth the hassle.
I dont use Graphene OS but my understanding was that it allows the user to sandbox Google play apps: https://grapheneos.org/usage#sandboxed-google-play
So this gives Google play less access than it normally would. I think thats probably the biggest draw of it other than security updates for longer periods of time for older hardware i imagine.
Again, I’m not a user of it so i cant say for sure but I’ve beem interested in trying it out as it seems up my alley as I’m getting more pivacy conscious as the years go by.
I was recently looking for something like this and couldn’t find what i was looking for, so thanks!
