  • Your concerns are valid, you absolutely will see your family less. If you’re not okay with that, that’s okay! Also keep in mind that the world is not on a night shift. It’s significantly harder to sleep normal hours when everything is going on the regular day schedule. That might not matter where you are but where I live that means more noise, more sirens, more people coming and going and keeping me awake. I’m a naturally light sleeper so when I had to work nights I had to go an extra mile or two. Blackout curtains are essential, and you may want to shove a towel under the door if the sun angle is unfavorable and shines it there. I also needed a facemask and ear plugs until I discovered I preferred a nice white noise maker. I still sleep with a white noise machine to this day, love it.

There are good things to night shift too. Less bullshit all around generally. Depending on what you’re doing that can be good or bad. It can be mind numbingly boring if you don’t have a set amount of work to do.

  • I feel like it was way more glitchy last week but theyust have rolled an update because now it’s absolutely solid. Thunder is nice too but it gets lost scrolling frequently. It has my favorite, probably most underrated feature though, which is the ability to tap to unblur NSFW and then re-tap to blur them again. I wish more apps would copy that feature it is SO SMOOTH, and makes me feel way better using card views and browsing with the all filter. Don’t have to disable NSFW completely, but I can tap then double tap to see it and hide it again without ever leaving the feed.

  • So like easy example - you see someone you’re acquainted with and say something like “hey how’s it going?” They’ll say something like “good man how are you?” And you say “good.” Conversation goes nowhere. That’s been me for a long time.

Instead, say something like “hey man how’ve you been what have you been up to lately?” Now you’ve given them an opportunity to say hi and actually tell you something. They may still answer shortly but they will probably give you enough to follow up. Example, “oh not much man, just hanging with the wife and kids, the usual.” But there - you have some things to dip into. 1) oh nice you guys got any trips planned? 2) what are the kids into these days, they like that (thing kids are into) that’s all the rage these days, or even 3) oh man how old is (kid) now?

I’m still not great at it but I’m much better at it than I used to be and trying to improve all the time.

  • it’s not really an option to simply not tip without being the bad guy

My man you have got to shake this from your psyche, that’s exactly how the employers that aren’t paying their employees want you to feel. You’re offloading their greed and systematic exploitation of working class people onto yourself under the misplaced guise of personal guilt. There may not a way to immediately fix the problem, but I can guarantee it will never get fixed if we dont change anything.
