I have a couple, including the one running my lemmy instance I’m posting this from. They’ve all been pretty good for me. I don’t push any of them hard or anything, but I’ve not had any problems.

Printables seems pretty superior at this point.

Your definition of emergency communication is way off. Sure you can use some app for training for that situation, however it's the least reliable way to get communications out in an actual emergency where others are actually going to hear and respond to it.

The best communications in an emergency, are those that are the most widely used. Which would be voice first, CW second. Having to carry around a phone, to use some app that someone else has to be actively listening to using another phone that is held up to a handheld, is not how I would want to be doing things in an actual emergency.

I also wouldn't rely on vara during an actual emergency. Sure a it's fun to play like using vara or a ht held up to a phone is going to help in any way during an emergency, but if you are relying on them, you are doing it wrong. I certainly wouldn't want my life to depend on them.

In an emergency, using voice or CW will be heard by a lot more people, and understood by them a lot easier, more reliably, and better than having to have an app on both ends.

Don't get me wrong, it's cool tech (after I figured out what it actually is), but it should not be presented as useful in an emergency. In an actual emergency, the last thing that should be done is flaffing around with an app on the phone, and making sure someone on the other end happens to have the app installed as well.

And those are the types of excuse that keep them from even trying. “Well you didn’t pay us enough, so we aren’t going to even try. By the way, your cost of membership are going up, because membership numbers are plummeting. Totally not our fault though.”

People (like me) are pretty fed up with the hands constantly being shoved asking for more, while getting less and less for what we give.

As long as corporations view it as a way to make more cash, it will never be safe. I’m really hoping the ARRL does what amateurs are paying it to do, and fight this tooth and nail. Sadly their track record doesn’t give me hope at all.

My lemmy instance is hosted on a 1GB vps with no problem. Even with a few other services on the same VPS.

No, but some people are stuck behind CG-NAT and can’t port forward to the outside world for wireguard. Things like Cloudflared, Tailscale and ZeroTier get past that.

It’s of course possible to use wireguard to a VPS and tunnel into that, but that’s a bit more technical to set up.

If it works for you and allows you to start learning, there’s no problem with it. Too many people seem to think that if you haven’t compiled whatever yourself, it’s not true “self hosting” but you should do what works best for you to get to the goal you want.

Ender 3 pro. Never had any issues with it really. I replaced the motherboard with a skr mini pretty early on, and changed it to direct drive. Running klipper on a pi 3. Sure it’s not the fastest, but it works very well for me.

People want it for torrenting or hosting things to the outside world. /c/Piracy has been flipping out because Mullvad removed port forwarding, which now apparently makes them one of the worst VPNs ever.

Mullvad (and I’m sure others) removed it because individuals have frequently used this feature to host undesirable content and malicious services. They simply do not want the kinds of things that users were hosting, passed through their servers as it has led to police visits, blacklisting and providers cancelling them.

I did find one glaring issue on kbin that will keep me from using it in the future.

I had apparently opened an account whoknowswhen, and figured I’d remove it and start again. When I went to delete the account, it didn’t actually delete it, instead it keeps me logged in and just put this at the top >Your request to delete the account has been submitted.

That seems like a bit of an issue, as I shouldn’t have to wait for it to be submitted (which also appears to mean approved) before deleting an account. Until that’s fixed, I’ll stick with lemmy and mastodon separately.

I tried kbin and don’t really understand it to be honest. I looked at their documentation and it doesn’t really explain much other than how to create an account on an instance.

Going to kbin.social and creating an account didn’t get me much farther. I don’t undrestand how to “subscribe” to (for example) the lemmy communities I follow her, or the users I follow on mastodon. And the “magazines” thing I really don’t get.

Maybe I’m too dumb for it or something.
