2026 Year of the Linux desktop?

Surely this will bring over a lot of people to Linux

Finding what I want on Amazon, and then looking it up and buying directly from the supplier. It’s usually cheaper too.

Is it much easier than TrueNAS?

I went with TrueNAS because it’s open-source, and it’s been smooth sailing.

(I just use it as a NAS, nothing more)

It’s basically android with all the spy ware stripped out and more privacy features, so not perfect but still significantly better than what we’ve got

GraphineOS will partner with a big manufacturer soon, then normies can switch over easier

Do they want more visibility?

To me the Fediverse is like email. Some instances want to grow to as many users as possible. Some are just some dude who has his own email server and uses it for himself.

And everything in between

Either way we’ve got to try, there is a slow shift happening in that direction, and the more that shift the easier it becomes

Hopefully with the political climate governments will be more resilient and care about digital sovereignty

Got to start somewhere, if a few do it it shows it’s possible

The biggest difference is I used different corners, and I made mine a bit deeper (28cm total, so that it would fit a 30cm 3D printer bed)

Right now the back is literally empty, I’m planning on moving all the power cords there soon.

The HDDs are plugged into the ODROID H4+ (the thing that looks like a PSU)

If you can make your own like I did I would highly recommend it.

If you have the Alu tubing cut and threaded for you most of the work is done

The thing that looks like a PSU is actuall a ODROID H4+ it has 4 SATA and power connectors, so I just power it from that.

So I have the UniFi Express 7 and a 2.5Gbps 8 port managed switch to go along with it. It’s overkill for my current needs but it allows me to expand on it a lot if I like.

It’s potentially cheaper to just buy a RackMate, or 3D print a 10" rack, but where’s the fun in that.

Thanks I love the jank, one day it’s going to be all neat and tidy and I’m going to miss the mess that it used to be, it adds character.

Best you can so is test it for yourself.

I switched to Linux Mint in February and my 4070 has given me no issues.

I just had to set some configs in steam so that it defaults to using my 4070 and not my iGPU, and the rest just worked
