I love how everybody is so busy about mining your behavior for ad tracking data and then like 2/3 of the ads I actually see are utterly irrelevant gut doctor / toenail fungus / 17 Most Embarrassing Topless Celebrity Moments crap.
(I think the reality is that they’re mining that data to identify a small number of people susceptible to high-value scams - like getting addicted to an F2P mobile game and spending $1000s on it - and the rest of us just get generic infill)
And because they’re 3D printed you can make as many as you want, so you have many ducks to give
Apple’s managed to become a credible player in the TV space in a few short years by, essentially, hiring some competent veteran executives to run the thing and throwing buckets of money at it; I think any sufficiently motivated big tech company could do the same thing with games.
It’s just companies and influencers, nobody else is posting much there. And half of the influencers are only there to try to get you to follow them somewhere else. (feed is absolutely crammed with Taylor “not wearing a mask outdoors in 2023 is literally genocide” Lorenz hawking her new YouTube channel and I don’t even follow her)
Meanwhile Mastodon continues growing steadily, and I’m getting as much engagement there as I ever did on Twitter with maybe 10% as many followers.

I don’t think they’re tech-illiterate in general; there are certain things they don’t understand because they’ve never really had to - filesystems, for instance - but that’s no different from most Millennials not understanding CLIs.
Meanwhile, when you sign up for Threads your timeline is nothing but shitty influencers for the first few days, yet somehow they manage to press on through that without getting the vapors or whatever.
