If you were looking for a Remote Desktop program to help a customer or other user, TeamViewer worked for me on Ubuntu. It was a great way to fix an issue remotely with a Windows user.

But you may not be looking for this type of connection.

Wayland is the future and X11 is heading to the past.

I have always liked Nvidia for years. When I moved to Linux, the Nvidia drivers have been working great on X11. I am currently playing Baldur’s Gate 3 and I have DLSS 2 turned on and get frame rates at 100. Looks great and awesome game. But I know Wayland is the future and want Nvidia to work well with it and Steam. I will get an AMD if I have to but my card is still great and I am not looking for a new one yet.

I was waiting for Nvidia drivers 545 to try again, but I checked last weekend and Ubuntu still had 535 drivers. I hear Nvidia did a lot of fixes for wayland on the new drivers.

I want everyone to move over to Wayland too.

I use my Linux PC for gaming. Last time I tried Steam/Nvidia with Wayland I could only get one game to launch. So hopefully those 2 will work on making Wayland happen for us.

For me Linux gaming is Steam/Proton. If is works with Steam/Proton, I am playing them. I find that native Linux games are not updated regularly or at all. And Steam wants games to run with the Steam deck. And they are willing work to make that happen.

And game companies know there are a lot of Steam decks out there. And it is not hard to put some effort to see that it runs on that equipment.

All this is a big help for the Linux community. Many gamers don’t know that they don’t need to buy windows to game. Linux/Steam/Proton is a great option. That is why I make a point to tell people that I am playing Baldur’s Gate 3 on my Linux Ubuntu gaming PC. This is how I found out that Linux can play games and switch from Windows. Another Linux gamer told me it was possible.

I want to use Wayland, but it currently doesn’t work with my Ubuntu 23.04/Nvidia/Steam. It was working under old steam big picture mode but the new big picture mode broke it.

Hope they fix it because I do believe Wayland is the future.

Everything is optional and your choice. Don’t romance anyone or do, your choice. Show genitals or don’t, your choice. The Druid wearing a bear form is a choice too. This game is great because of all the choice and how many different outcomes a quest could have, or many different ways to solve a problem. Will I romance a guy wearing a bear form, no. But I’m glad it’s there if others want to.

I’m old and it reminds me of the marijuana debate. I’ll never smoke marijuana (I think all smoking is bad for you) but I don’t care of other do. I’ll vote to make it legal even though it’s not for me. Why force my beliefs on others. Seems un-American.

After the patch I tried Vulkan again and played for over 4 hours with out an issue. I’ll play again…a lot over the weekend. We’ll see if I have any issues.

Vulkan wouldn’t work for my PC either. It would crash. DirectX works, but I hope they fix the Vulkan problem. I would rather use Vulkan.

I played for over 2 hours and didn’t have any other issues. Performance was very good on my Linux Gaming PC.

I didn’t know about it. I will try it next time Prime has a free game I want. I tried Lutris but I believe Amazon is blocking the login for them. Thanks for letting me know.

You have to download the game using the Amazon Games App on Windows–or at least I did. Once the game is downloaded, I moved the game folder to my Linux Gaming PC and added it to Steam as a Non-Steam game. I had to set the compatibility Proton to version: 6.3-8 because the newest version wouldn’t work with it.

I use Ubuntu and Nvidia 3080 and the only issue I have had was when Steam updated their Big Picture Mode. I was using Wayland and it broke with the new Big Picture Mode. I had to switch back to x11 and it works well with that. I do hope Nvidia and Steam fix the Wayland issue. I’d rather use Wayland.

I have been using my Linux Gaming PC for for a couple of years now. I jumped ship with the ad riddled Windows 11. And I have been very happy with Steam/Proton gaming.

Nope. No interest.

I use make MKV on Ubuntu to rip my blu-rays to MKV files. And I play them in that format. They are big but I have space on my NAS drive.

I will have to give it a try.
Ubuntu 23.04, Nvidia 3080, xorg. I would use Wayland but it doesn’t work with steam at all for me at the moment. Maybe this update fixed it.

I am a regular Linux desktop user because after trying very hard to justify buying a Steam Deck, I just wouldn’t use it. I don’t game on the go and I have a nice big TV and sofa set up.

But the steam deck is so sweet.
