I’m not putting any work stuff on by home computer. I’m not giving work admin rights to that.
Why? Amazon seems to have built an amazing system with AWS, but does it need the same amount of staff time to maintain it that it needed to develop it?
If Amazon acknowledges that it isn’t going to be developing new products to the scale it did for the past decade, it probably doesn’t need the headcount it had before.
My guess is if some companies are willing to have some full time remote positions, they are going to hire from LCOL areas with poor workers rights.
Or you had several companies try to start their own streaming services from scratch and thought you needed a ton of new shows to fill it. Disney+ could have easily gotten away with archived Disney Channel shows, all the animated Disney cartoons, the old Star Wars & Marvel movies, and the Simpsons. It didn’t need a lot of the new shows, no matter how cool they looked.
If graphics were with it, people would pay for it.
The fact of the matter is that exponential graphics capabilities requires an exponential input of developer and asset creator budget. Given that there is a ceiling on game prices, it isn’t worth it going for higher fidelity games when the market isn’t going to pay for it.
Yes!
But this is really more of a crude simulacrum that can parrot out recorded bits of a person’s life on command.
So start going after the fencing network. Make it risky to hold a stolen phone.
At minimum, we need politicians to start using other options to allow for people to deplatform.
That’s really cool that Intel had that made.
I feel like “hallucination” was chosen as the word because of what it implies.
It doesn’t imply a bad algorithm, which makes the company look bad since hallucinations are out of a person’s control. It doesn’t imply using poor training data for the same reason.
But hallucination also masks the development of the model. A small kid might say something racist based on what they grew up with, but we would likely call that child immature. Same if an AI doesn’t fully understand a question or repeats a wrong answer that was given to it by someone as a laugh.
No one is fault. It was just a hallucination.
The Microsoft monopoly was never dismantled, why should Alphabet be?
If the influx of new members from outside the instance became a disruption, I expect that defederation would be the first option to address it. That has already been used on Lemmy several times as some instances have become a detriment to others.
What would be an inciting incident for an Eternal September here?
The closest equivalence in the Fediverse is Threads, but it feels like Meta has done a decent job keeping up its walled garden combined with preliminary defederation of Threads from many smaller servers. I don’t know why a major company would want to use a federated entity to compete against Reddit.
Well, that’s what coupons are for.
I don’t see the benefits but I see drama this would cause.
Customers aren’t uniform.
You may have 95% of a customer base who don’t want this feature, but it is very low on their priorities. In contrast, you may have 5% of a fan base who do want this feature, and it is very high on their list of priorities.
The change seems cheap, so it is probably worth pleasing that small part of customers.
I have a job where it is my job to say no. That means I’m not going to get liked by everyone.
It is more important to do my job right than to be liked by everyone.
Software inherently establishes an assumed level of control between the user and other entities. That baked in relationship can be influenced by politics.
Is it still? The VC funding has started drying up and every tech company has started worrying about profitability now. I think the old innovate or die mantra has played itself out.
And IBM & Motorola diminished in part because they stuck to older industries where cost became as important as innovation and didn’t lower their cost.
