Inucune@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•We Should Immediately Nationalize SpaceX and StarlinkEnglish41·23 days agoNASA is too beholden to politics… You can’t do 7 year builds and missions when the Senate flips every 4 years and has to kill everything the other side did on principle that it has a D or R attached to it. Everything is political.

That is the whole culture of Apple Customer base.
Even still, the ‘flag’ could be enough damning evidence for some people to take action. We’re in the cultural ‘guilty until proven innocent’ territory, where a mere accusation ruins lives.

Better Homes Food chopper that couldn’t be disassembled to clean it. Potato chunks got pulled up into the housing by the blades and just rotted there with no way to access it. The exact same model is still sold in stores.

Fixing tech debt. Once it is fixed, I have some documentation to write because no one responsible for this security software knew it wasn’t working. Don’t outsource your IT to the lowest offshore bidder, you’re a $5000 bribe from a breach.

Inucune@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Feels like so many tech bubbles are about to burstEnglish4·10 months agoMeta isn’t the only VR space. Resontite VR plays like VR chat meets Gary’s mod, and supports most equipment you can hook up. It is not perfect but there are frequent updates trying to address the issues, same as any platform.

Inucune@lemmy.worldtoAsklemmy@lemmy.ml•Other than AI, what technology are you excited about?0·1 year agoNuclear power reactors built after the 1970’s. New generation (5?, 6?) for baseload. Mox, msr, lead moderated… Renewables can bicker over the transient loads while reactors provide the ‘always on, always needed’ bulk of power load.
Fuel reprocessing to close the loop would be the grail at this point.
FedEx package warehouse used theses when I worked there.
When it breaks, it isn’t always obvious or easy to fix, but can cause problems for anything that has to talk to anything else. The biggest thorn it puts in my side is that short names [ThisPC] are served differently than fqdn [ThisPC.MyDomain.com]. Does NotMyApp use short or FQDN to resolve other machines? I don’t find out until the Wireshark.
Hard drive pin that needed to return to home position for the machine to boot would stick. A small drop would allow the spring to push it back home, and the drive would return to function.

These programs require continuous funding. The probe went to Jupiter. The scientist and listening stations back on earth still have to run to receive the data.
