The problem in all this for me, is that examples like Jobs are pointed to as examples of why this should be done (your entire post basically), and then we have examples like Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos who basically couldn’t deliver the technology and kept the “lie” going.

How does one know they can eventually deliver? In your post, you basically assume the problem is solvable with capital. With some promised tech (like Theranos), at what point does “there is a necessary need to gauge the publics interest in a product to evaluate if capital needs to be invested in this space” turn into fraud if the product turns out to be unattainable? (Think cancer cures, limb regeneration, etc)

They are both big companies with flagship cellphones yes. From someone who takes security seriously, they are not the same - from how apple implemented the secure enclave to how they protect their users privacy (there is a lot I can’t talk about, but if you know you know). Security is a cat and mouse game and/or and arms race. You either care about this stuff or not, but apple and Google are not the same

Apple has demonstrated over and over again they will work hard to safeguard users security and privacy - Google does not care about privacy at all, and they only care about security when it doesn’t conflict with their need to track and monetize you at the moment

Michael Burry (guy from the big short) has been doing the same. We all know climate change is going to fuck us, we all know we are headed towards serious water shortages, etc - these guys also know and have money to position themselves - for what final gameplan I don’t know, but at least with Gates his recent history has shown a care for the greater good for humanity at least. Can’t say the same for other billionaires.

Young ruthless Bill Gates was another person, older and wiser Bill Gates has already achieved richest person in the world, Forbes #1, etc etc - all that’s in the rearview mirror - I believe he has awakened and realized it takes a village and he wants his legacy to reflect that

It used to really boggle my mind too (I met a young earth creationist for the first time in my life, he was a network engineer), but then I realized a lot of people just look at techy type jobs purely to make money, not because they are science and tech nerds.

Many people go towards software engineer/computer science type stuff because that’s where the money is. And honestly there is not much there that really would change someones ideology - nothing about sorting algorithms, processor opcodes, schedulers, etc etc really challenges someone’s views - just tools to learn to make that paycheck. So a young earther learns what a packet is and how it gets routed from point a to point b - what exactly would challenge his view that the bible is literal in any of that? Those kinds of people don’t really have any curiosity about the world and are not looking for any answers

Depends what your trying to hide and from who. Someone trying to stay anonymous from creepy dudes is fine (ops sec best practices should be used if one wants to stay anonymous). If someone with resources (say some agency) wants to figure out who you are, they can de-anonymized instantly due to all the tracking that’s out there, plus any subpoena power they might have, it’s a wrap. “AI” doesn’t even need to come into play (not that I even know what you mean by AI)
