I switched over to development/experimental package repos cause I was impatient for a new feature. I switched back to prod but I didn’t revert my packages. It worked fine for a couple weeks but they eventually became to outdated and I couldn’t post.

Luckily you can use a live stick to chroot in to fix. Felt pretty cool being able to do that, but yeah it was a stupid mistake lol. And I’m always gonna have a live USB on the side just in case I do something similarly bone headed.

I made a major mistake that bricked my system, all my fault, but I was able to plunge my arm into the smoldering pit it fell into and drag my install directly from the gates of hell. Still working great like half a year later and I now know not to do what I did before that broke it all.

The aur usually has what I need, only have had to manually build once… Before I found the aur package. Endeavoros is a good easy way to get into arch if you are worried about the manual configuration.

I am sure there are instances I have forgotten, there is definitely a certain amount of bigotry, it’s not hard to find classism, sexism, and ableism as usual for the internet and I am sure I have come across racism too but I don’t remember any specifics.

The new nvidia driver has explicit sync, wayland perfect for me since I updated it a week or so ago.

My moment was using the experimental repos to get an early view into wayland, after seeing it wasn’t quite ready for my system I just switched back. Mistakes made, and slowly over the next few weeks as I updated, the experimental packages never got superseded and updated, until my system crashed and would not pass boot.

Luckily since it is not windows I just used a live usb stick to mount the disk and manually reinstall all the broken system packages. Scary but made me feel pretty confident I could recover the system myself in the future. Also learned a pretty important lesson. Don’t do that, and look at the upgrade log if you do lol, cause the whole time, as I upgraded there was red text showing me all the system packages that were not getting updated.

Also in general, look for custom launchers, Genshin has a custom launcher, runescape as well, I believe gog does too. If you can’t use foss at least use a better launcher.

for media honestly you can’t beat VLC, but I run a plex server I typically use, for music I use strawberry, and for asmr desktop noise Blanket is a super cool package, and I like Cozy for audio-books.

Edit: Oh and for gaming I saw another comment recommending retroarch and I totally agree, retroarch works amazing on linux, so much better performance than I ever had emulating on windows before I switched.

Also at least let me compile it myself if not in a repo 😩

I’m dead

As it is running sudo with a long process is annoying missing and having to reenter my password or missing and the process timing out if I go afk to wait, I can’t imagine having to type my password every few moments when I run an upgrade. Surely this is not the pitch. This is already looking dead in the water if so, and god help me if I have to remember to type run0.

Because then it’d be a romantic tragedy.

I just started using it today after seeing a comment on it, it may have been yours and it seems fantastic, I took a look at their demo searches and it reminded me of old google while still keeping elements from new google I find useful, and being able to disable or disable any feature I want is amazing.

I haven’t dug in too deep on making my own lenses yet, since they had some very sensible defaults (I mean seriously they have a default lemmy/fediverse lens) but that feature seems incredibly cool and useful if I want to set up something to easily search a variety of niche, focused websites on a subject I want to search on a regular basis.

I was worried about it not featuring conversions/math stuff but prepared to use WolframAlpha for that, but it included them, the only thing is oddly after providing the answer to my test math query of 88+17 it showed search results from the quran and the bible lol. But I suppose that was just a minor oddity.

Currently playing fallout New Vegas modded on Linux! Of course if you already did it, remodding and transferring the saves would be frustrating, but it is actually pretty simple once you learn how to use Steam Tinker Launch.

I definitely have, just last week my girlfriend got intentionally misgendered multiple times while going to get her gender marker changed, by a social security agent. Some people can be incredibly cruel like that. An overwhelming majority of people are not like that though, in my experience, but the sting of cruelty is louder than passive acceptance.

well it sorta just makes sense, the gui presents it as a folder, you can move things around in it like a folder, conceptually it presents them in a way to make you think they are physical things stored in a physical folder/box. cli it really just feels like you are using a string of characters indicating the desired file, it feels more like a directory that way, even if it always really is that way, just showcased differently in the gui.

That wasn’t meant as an accusation or anything, nor was I claiming you had or have an unhealthy emotional dependence. There are certainly stages to intimacy, emotionally, romantic, and sexually.

And that really helps tie together what I am trying to explain here. No partnership is inherently anything, people have different needs, desires, and experience the world in vastly different ways. People have varying degrees of emotions, romanticism, and sexuality. Your responses and how you said them did appear phobic or angry/dismissive at the least so that’s why I decided I should just dismiss you as a person disrespecting of my lifestyle.

I think it is clear to me now you either had a bad experience and were traumatized by a poor partner, or simply realized you were monogamous. That is totally ok, I’m glad you realize who you are and are happy with it. Though it is certainly easier desiring a societal norm, see our discussion on what I am, where I am defending and trying to explain the vastness of experiences I and others have. You don’t ever have to defend monogamy in our society. As for your views on relationships and sexuality, I still will deny that partnerships are always ever sexual. It’s definitely possible, reading what you’ve said, you are some measure of aromantic to tie everything to being sexual in origin and meaning within a romantic gesture or close non-platonic intimacy. That’s ok too, that is how you experience the world, but that’s not how everyone is or feels about things. If that view is a response to your experiences, I’m sorry that you’ve only ever experienced things as a pretense to sex, but there is a lot more out there.

So yeah it’s pretty clear your polyphobic and do conflate romantic relationships with being sexual.

Ask other people about their views on monogamy and I think you can find some that would call your emotional dependence on friends cheating. Clearly a red flag for most and abusive, but your post is a big red flag for me as well.

I have some questions for you,

Is going on a date with a friend ok? Is kissing someone romantically ok? Is cuddling and holding hands ok? Is emotional dependence ok? Is flirting ok? Is going on a vacation with them ok?

Exactly what do you suppose is the difference between multiple deeply intimate platonic friendships and a multiamorous relationship?

I won’t deny that for me personally as a sexual person there is also a sexual element, but one of my partners is ace so for her it’s all romantic.
