What’s your recommended Linux distro for a Windows gamer to try?
*self hosts gitlab with docker run
*still doesn’t know git
‘:confused jackie:’
That’s the biggest issue. Support.
Most of the success of the RPi is due to rasparian and community support.
As shown by a Microsoft employee opening a bug for FFPEG for issues with Teams…
Maybe fix it yourself and contribute or donate to the cause?
The problem with this is loopholes.
What’s to stop a parent company from starting a private sub company for IT needs and contract out the work?
BAM there goes the anti stock thing.
I say free for personal/private use but not for commercial would be a better license.
Costs are dumb cheap for single seat but increases as seats goes up.
For now I tried Google play games beta. It’s a type 1 vm instance instead of bluestacks being type 2.
Super easy to setup. At least Google is the one spying on me instead of china.
I’m trying to run blissos now in hyperv with no luck.
Did you make any progress?
I’m trying to find a bluestacks alternative
Since the huge push to SaaS I’ve seen plenty of companies that essentially run thin clients.
The local workstations are just thier access to login to X website that host thier apps and data.
Zero reason for them to switch to win11 or buy new hardware due to “incompatibility”.
These end users can be trained to use mint or Ubuntu and be just as productive at work.
You can self host either platform so you have full control.
At that point anything you run is on you for security.
Connect wise and ninjaone come to mind.
Free and open source? If it’s enterprise pay for a suite.
Because you’re a level 1~2 technician hired in to support an enterprise windows environment and you have no choice.
I’m talking about supporting an American enterprise environment that handles medical patient data. No Linux workstations really. Easier to comply with HIPAA that way.
Is it convoluted BS? Sure why not. But Microsoft services are really sticky once you get integrated at a large scale (5k workstations plus over 100 servers).
There are plenty of RMM tools/companies that support Linux platforms.
But… clickbait and drama~~~
You should know people only read headlines!
You can disable or streamline that stuff with either group policy or registry keys.
I used to do the same work (several years ago) and I started researching fixes and writing scripts to speed up my work.
Make a to do list of what your computer setup process is. Figure out the earliest you can launch a script (netshare or usb). Then start writing scripts for your tasks.
Installing apps, file transfers and system configs.
Fuck luxury cars for this exact reason
Holy shit a DVDRW!!
You should add a DVD bay so you can rip on the fly!! Trust me it’s way faster than saving to your 5400 rpm disk and writing back.
I’ll admit I like having images tho.
I completely understand being stuck there while looking.
My recommendation is silent quit. Just do your responsibilities and focus more on still looking.
If you must install that monitoring shit on your personal machine then I would recommend using a VM if possible.
You can do windows eval forever and try to use Libre office instead of open office.
Yeah I do this currently for my Windows installs. But Windows would freak out on OS updates and reinstalls.
I plan to redirect home on my next build
