I print the letters face down on the print bed with a first Gcode (make sure the geocode doesn’t stop the motors at the end). Then you print a second file over it for the plate that has a gap of your initial layer height where the letters are. The benefit is that if I fail a print, I only wasted on layer not a whole print.
My issue is if it fails you’ve lost your entire print, me if it fails I lost a single layer. Also I like the mirror finish of my first layer.
Physical keys that you had to type multiple times to get letters. I could write a whole text message with my hands in my pocket.

Welcome to the deepest rabbit hole in 3D printing! Klipper is nice on the surface and absolutely mind blowing when you dig deeper. If you’re programming savvy, you can make it do basically anything. You can even install a script that runs shell scripts on the pi from the printer. You could make it control your coffee maker via home automation if you wanted. Lol. Anyways. Pressure advance is the key here.
Pressure advance will solve some of your issues here. When reaching a corner, the head slows down but the filament is still pushed too fast and so it overflows. Pressure advance (in Klipper) can compensate for that.
I have an OrangePi Zero 2 setup as a console under my TV. The zero 3 just came out and it $15. Does all 16 bit consoles, can run Linux or android (android works better for emulator)
