Oh yes, I remember the audio one, too!
Thought to have been an ordinary falling star.
Oh yes, I remember the audio one, too!
This was before proactive remediations were a thing. Script probably would’ve worked, although I find them a bit vague as to how they work
It’s a very old meme… and not especially applicable here
There have been two distinct Windows updates in recent memory that have broken things.
The one that stopped network printers from working, and you had to change a specific GPO setting which was not available in Intune at the time, meaning I had to do it manually on each computer.
The one that removed all shortcuts to Office 365 apps from the desktop and start menu, necessitating a repair… manually on each affected machine.
So it does happen on occasion. It’s not as bad as in the XP days, but it still can be a little sketchy at times
But adoption has fallen so significantly that you have to rely on listicles to find what you’re looking for. The same could very easily and quickly happen with optical discs, and if I may be afforded an anecdote, I’ve seen exactly one optical disc brand in the last decade (Verbatim). And that’s when shops have them available, which is extremely rare nowadays.
They might not go away completely, but just like with headphone jacks on phones, you’ll have to scrounge for them. Same with if you want a display that’s less than 6", or a physical keyboard. (Or a floppy disk…!)
How many headphone jacks do you see today? All it takes is one big player, and adoption can fall just like that.
A Binatone 6-in-1 Pong machine from (if I recall) around 1977. My next oldest machine is a red-label Astro Wars from 1980.
Which ones? As far as I’m aware, they’re all full-fat PS3 titles
BIOS are usually set up with PXE in the boot sequence. If it fails to boot from the hard drive, it’ll attempt PXE.
Darn Noone, I wish they’d just mind their own business
So when we actually do have AI, what are we supposed to call it? The current use of the term “AI” is too ambiguous to be of any use.
I liked GLIDE, which was suggested a few years ago, though I can’t remember what the acronym was now
It’s got that weird typeface too.
As a fellow FP5 user, I haven’t come across the issues you’ve mentioned - that said, I did install /e/os pretty much immediately, so perhaps that’s why.
My dad had a Raspberry Pi running Kodi, complete with a bunch of Totally Legit plugins which allowed him to watch anything he wanted. Thought it was legal and above board because… wait for it… it’s open-source
My dad got into Kazaa in the mid-00s, then Limewire, before discovering Mininova and TPB. Just kinda saw what he was doing and thought it was interesting. (We were often told not to touch the computer as it’d “knock off his download”…)
I seem to recall one of the first things I pirated was… er, Pirates of the Caribbean, which I watched with my friends huddled round my laptop. Quality times.
And the fact that the status notification now has an area of roughly 4 pixels.
Not at all. Just because a CRT is inherently fuzzy, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a nice sharp source image.
