I highly doubt it. The NES has been completely reverse engineered for decades, there really isn’t any reason to use proprietary code for an emulator for it.

One thing to keep in mind: if someone gave you a 5.25" floppy disk with this type of data on it, even if the data was perfectly readable, would you have any way to do it? You’d need to hunt down someone whos into retro technology and hope you can figure out how to decode the information. The format itself became obsolete, so even if the data would theoretically be accessible, the means to access said data may not be.

Point is, what are the chances that CD drives will be around in hundreds of years outside of a museum or personal collection? They’re already becoming more and more uncommon after only a couple decades. But there really isn’t a great solution to this, especially when it comes to video, because you can’t just print it out.

Side note, are you sure that CD Golds are more durable than M-Disk?

They don’t actually provide decryption keys, the user has to either extract them from their own Switch or find them elsewhere online. However, it could be argued by Nintendo that using an unreleased game ROM for testing proves that the devs themselves were guilty of piracy, and were therefore somehow condoning the use of their emulator for piracy.

Either way, we won’t know how well Nintendo’s arguments would have held up in court, because the devs settled rather than fight it out.

It was a settlement. The devs decided, for reasons that are not public, that it would be easier to just pay Nintendo some money and take down the emulator than to fight them in court. It’s very possible (even likely) that they figured it would be more expensive to fight Nintendo’s lawyers than to just pay a fixed amount up front.

So, I usually cap download speeds at 350Mbps as to not choke out the rest of my devices, but I leave upload uncapped because it never reaches high enough to have a noticable effect.

Okay so genuine question from someone who’s used various distros for all sorts of things over the years, just never as a daily driver. What sorts of things have caused your revulsion towards Windows? Aside from Microsoft’s bullcrap like Alexa or MS Store ads which can all be disabled, I’ve personally never had enough of a problem with Windows that justified the effort required to move away from it. And I would consider myself a power user who loves to customize things.

Again, I just want to genuinely understand what sorts of problems people have that cause them to hate using Windows that much, even if they’re just subjective things.

The glass transition temperature (the temperature where plastic starts to become malleable) of PETG is 85°C, so if you put a PETG spoon in boiling water, it would deform and become pretty useless. However, if you used a high temperature plastic with a glass transition point above 100°C, you might be able to get away with this method.

No, only if you’ve overclocked and the fault is one that could be caused by overclocking. Honestly, I think it’s absolutely fair for them to not replace a CPU if you killed it yourself by running it outside of spec. Most manufacturers would just say you’re SOL if your CPU dies and it’s ever been overclocked, even if the issue is unrelated, so I think this is a pretty good policy for them to have.

Granted, it’s possible that they could always say that it was the overclocking that killed it whenever the fuse is blown, but considering how heavily AMD leans into customer good-will and positive sentiment about the company, they will probably try their best to honor any legitimate warranty claims.

They likely DO get a copyright claim. But a claim doesn’t necessarily mean that your video gets removed. YouTube gives the copyright claimer the choice for what to do with videos they claim, which can include removing them, leaving them visible but taking any profit made from ads on the video, splitting the ad revenue, or just leaving it alone.

I do absolutely agree that removing a video for having a song in the background is bullshit. Just wanted to give an explanation for the inconsistency.

As far as I can tell, the zinc itself wouldn’t be particularly harmful (at least, not moreso than inhaling any other metal vapors). The nasty stuff would be manganese dioxide, which is a main component in zinc-carbon, zinc-chloride, and alkaline batteries. Generally, non-rechargable batteries won’t “explode” in a fire, but they will puncture and leak chemicals everywhere, which isn’t great. Lithium batteries, on the other hand, will absolutely explode and should be kept far away from anything that could damage them.

Oh sure, I wasn’t implying it would be safe, just that a few grams of it isn’t gonna do jack shit to prevent soot buildup like the image implies.

I can’t imagine that the relatively tiny amount of zinc in a flashlight battery would have any affect on the soot from a fireplace. As for the colors, it will totally do that, although you can also buy the little packs they make to throw in campfires if you want to avoid giving yourself cancer.

It completely depends on the specific video file. HEVC and AV1 are more efficient in general, but most of their benefits become apparent with 4K video, which they were specifically designed to be better at handling than AVC. It also depends on your phone’s software and hardware, as it might not be fast enough to encode in real-time with higher compression settings (and you don’t get to use things like 2-pass encoding which can drastically lower bitrate without sacrificing visual quality).
