Alt account of PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org for when SDF Lemmy is doing its monthly dive 😆.
anarcho-communist.
Still not voting in your goddamn elections

The problem is your unrealistic expectations by how you’re making it sound like just making an instance means automatic success of a community by denying the reality of just how active the general community as a whole is.
Sounds like you need to either find or make the community you want to see. Which in general, you can do (but some instances don’t let you make new communities I think), although it’s important to make the community on an instance whose policies are amenable to you.
And then if your community is worth going to, people will come.

The problem with ‘making your own instance’ is, how little of active people there are to sustain such instances.
You literally only need one person to make an instance: you.
You make it sound like we’re flourishing with millions of active users when we’re realistically seeing only five digit thousands and that’s being generous.
And that’s a problem? Personally, I want to see the Fediverse grow sustainably.
It’s not that simple.
No it actually is that simple to make an instance just for yourself. Actually, the challenge comes about when you grow, because then you have to moderate other users.

Power-Tripping Mods, Gaslighting Users, Immature Moderators, 100 Rules to follow but contradicts itself
The point of the Fediverse is not that we individually have better characters than the people on Reddit. The point is that if you don’t like what an instance is doing, you can join an instance you do like, or make your own.

Depends. Are you one of the workers in the spoon production process? Then no, you’re not an asshole that hoards money, at least not on that basis.
Do you privately own the factory? Do you privately own all the spoons that the workers produce under a series of “”“voluntary”“” employment contracts? Then yes, you’re hoarding money (more precisely, hoarding the means of production and products).
Profits are just wealth stolen from workers.
I’m a bit surprised that you’re reacting to that particular clause in my comment because it’s bog standard socialist analysis. Like I’m not saying anything controversial there unless you’re just not a socialist.

All technologies are grifts when controlled by the capitalist class and marketed under the logic of capitalism. Simple as that. Even the simple hammers you find at a hardware store are a side effect of some rich asshole’s money hoarding operation.
For this reason, I do not reject the listed technologies outright. (Although I do not personally know of a non-capitalist use for Blockchain, I’m open to suggestions.) I reject the capitalists who control these technologies.

We really should be slowing down and looking at the effects of AI. It has too much potential to fuck everything up to not think about it a bit, especially if recursive self-improvement is on the horizon.
IMO, the notion that AI systems are intelligent in any meaningful capacity is venture capitalist marketing. AI systems are especially capable of pooping out convincing bullshit. Otherwise, these systems are not particularly more dangerous than other machines. In particular, the notion that we are even converging towards AGI is marketing. The focus of criticism should be on the concrete applications of these machines. IMO, statistical learning theory has excellent theoretical backing and lots of practical applications, and the mathematics is honest (if complicated) about the limitations of the field. The statistical learning community is still working on developing the theoretical backbone for LLM systems at scale.
IMO, the main issue is that capitalists are wrecking our environment, stealing all our private information, and stealing our tax dollars to build systems that are then used to kill, oppress, harass, demean, and propagandize the working class. Again, AI technologies are especially capable at helping the worst monsters in all of history achieve these goals. But it’s not because of “intelligence”. It’s because of what they are using these systems to do to us.
I.e., we should absolutely scale down AI system deployment to a sustainable level, and we should burn anyone who uses AI systems for oppression … but people who are organically interested in statistical learning systems should at least be allowed to continue research into the mathematics of “AI” (preferably under a different title, because people who end up using AI do not need nor want intelligent systems, just useful ones!) as long as they’re not doing anything with the technology to oppress people.

Until the vast majority go out and become their own personal Luigi Mangione, nothing will get done.
I love the fire, and there’s definitely gonna be a need for some more Luigi’s to carry out those exceptional tasks that don’t benefit from “too many cooks”, but IMO we need the proletarian majority to organize and collaborate to overthrow the system. So we don’t necessarily need a majority of people to actually go out and fight (but we do definitely need some!); we need a majority to collaborate with a sufficient number of people who do carry out violent actions for proletarian emancipation.

I’ll take them seriously when they take their own advice seriously and pause their operations.

At the exact same time, I have the right to say that your young children deserve painful cancer, or that they deserve to die in a school shooting. Thats my first amendment right.
Yeah I don’t care lol, you’re just some broken soul crashing out in a public forum.

Fascists, anticommunist liberals, LGBTphobes, statists, and conservatives have been wishing infinite violence and death on me, my friends, and my family for my entire adult life. I sleep like a baby knowing that my enemies are monsters and that I must be doing something right for them to want to kill me. The billionaires also sleep like babies because they are open monsters and have no conscience.
…are you a billionaire? Be honest.

Billionaires deserve to be abolished. If they won’t give up control of the world’s resources by choice, then yes they deserve to be killed, as an act of collective self-defense by the ecology against them. And so far, they have never voluntarily given up control.

Billionaires should be taxed abolished.

Probably your instance. For example, I’m on a VPN all day every day and I get to post and comment and use Lemmy like nothing happened.

I like how there’s no fucking code repo or even a white paper or any evidence that this system ever actually existed 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
