“Oh uh… the cheque is in the mail!”
Wait, are there cars with lights/wipers on a touch screen?
I have an honest question and I feel like Lemmy is a good place to have a real discussion on this. To preface this, I use adblock too so I’m kinda calling myself a hypocrite with this question :P
Why do we expect any free service not to have ads? If a paid service like Netflix introduced ads I’d be pissed, and same goes for cable TV these days. But why would something free like Youtube not have ads? How can we be bothered by ads on a service we’re getting for free?
Someone help me reconcile this for my own well-being haha.
But that wouldn't be accurate because there are South American countries with even cheaper electricity than here, so it's only the cheapest in North America.
Also not to be too pedantic but central America isn't technically a continent, and it all falls under North America anyways.
Hell yeah, we've got a heat pump and we're in Canada where it can get to -40°C (which is coincidentally also -40°F) and that thing works like a beast. Fortunately we also have the cheapest electricity in North America so the decision was easy.
This is exactly it. Of course battery production is harmful too, but not only is it less harmful than other sources to extract, you also don’t have to burn batteries to generate the power. With fossil fuels, the extraction is massively more harmful and then the use itself creates even more pollution.
