  • I deleted Threads five days ago.

It was a cesspool of (Russian? Troll Farm?) propaganda attacking Harris for not having any accomplishments for the last four years, complaining about housing, grocery, egg, and gas prices, “fixing” America, a crapton of pro-jesus stuff, pro-Elon comments and reposts, government money going to “illegals” instead of hurricane victims, and a ton of made up lies. …

All of which were as transparent as fuck why they were wrong. VP’s don’t make policy, so what accomplishments should she have? Housing has been going up for a decade+, it’s not new, egg prices were normal while the pics were of organic egg prices and expensive grocery carts had hidden high cost items or just straight up lied about the cost, gas prices are the lowest they’ve been for years. Jesus stuff praised trump, America, tons of AI generated “holy” trump pics, bashed atheists, posted Elon’s BS pseudo-wisdom, Ignored the $20Bn spent on hurricane relief in favor of a few hundred million housing the undocumented workers living in the affected area…

It was infuriating. Because they were so obviously wrong…blatantly, in-your-face, completely fucking wrong. It was a constant flood of lies. Eight out of nine posts were BS.

But as soon as the election swung in Trump’s favor…poof…it went quiet. Hardly a peep. Gone.

And I realize that Threads was captured completely by troll farm bots spewing right-wing propaganda. And it was a waste of time. So my account will be deleted.

  • Took my first drive as a passenger in a FSD Tesla the other day. I was rapidly underwhelmed. I mean, yeah…it’s pretty cool the car drives itself, to an extent. But even as a passenger I was struck by the number of times I would have taken the wheel and made the car do what it was supposed to. Hesitant pulling forward to turn, hesitant pulling out into traffic after a turn, wrong speed for the road, abrupt turns… Did it get us there? Sure. Did it do a good job? Mid at best. Probably better as an anti-fatigue measure on highway drives instead of taking you places in town. I would not pay for FSD were I to own a Tesla…at least it seems really inappropriate for the kind of driving I do.

  • Yes. The shuttle was both rocket and spacecraft, obviously controllable for landing. The Shuttle SRBs were reusable. They were not controllable for landing, but nonetheless they did land in a state that allowed reuse.

Musk achieved powered flight for landing his rockets, but even NASA had a long history of research with VTOL powered rockets that were not used for spaceflight.

He can certainly claim to have perfected it, but he certainly didn’t invent it.

  • What’s there to hear? I already said I’ve been a linux user for 20 years, so it’s not like you’re going to convince me to change or tell me something I don’t already know, yet here you are trying to sell me a product I already use without acknowledging any of the issues that can happen with Linux…and there you go accusing me of some kind of user failing when I already stated I downloaded a current popular distro to get thing working. Why should I have to explain my regular upgrades and updates? I really don’t have time to listen to soft accusations after I stated real issues with the OS. If you’re happy with linux, great, but don’t shove your rose tinted glasses on everyone else’s face.

  • Audio cracking and popping, sound not working at all, flickering at certain resolutions, not rendering faces properly, some software won’t load at all, some linux apps don’t work correctly, USB ports not working, wireless dongles not working, etc. I’m not going to bore anyone with the full list. I mean, I can tell you’re waiting to pin the blame on me or say something along the lines of “all you have to do is…” and that’s really disingenuous. Either Linux “just works” or it doesn’t. And even as a fan and long-time user…it doesn’t. Not like Windows, anyway.

  • Despite what the fanboys say, linux still isn’t completely ready for primetime. I’ve been a casual linux user for twenty-odd years, and it has come a LONG way from assembling Lego bricks into a usable OS to a mostly plug-‘n-play setup.

There’s plenty of stuff that doesn’t work. Compared to Windows the software isn’t all available. Sound and video can still present difficulties. I moved my Steam library to linux and many of the games work well, but forget it if you’re into AAA online play, anti-cheat software still doesn’t play nice on linux.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a much more polished and easy to use setup than it’s ever been. But it still doesn’t beat Windows for the amount of mainstream software available and still needs to be irritatingly fiddled with if you want to do anything off the beaten path with it.

  • Some states require front plates.

Blocking a plate with a bike rack isn’t a bad idea, except - a) the rack will wear your paint, b) any automated toll collection based on license plate reading will also be blocked. Probably NBD once in while, but if someone regularly skips tolls and is caught it’s gonna hurt. They just had a toll-skipper sting near me where they caught a crapton of people who regularly skipped tolls with license plate blockers and temp tags. They lost their cars instantly, a few got slapped with 6-figure fines and fees, and I imagine jail time might be on the menu for some.
