The first result you get on google is a dead singer. Every other search you will have him on the front page instead of what you’re trying to find. Contrast this to searching for something from reddit.

This is absolutely it. The C-suite and senior management are made up of sharp people. They absolutely know this will trigger an exodus and a large bag of fire-able workers. They don’t care that they’re likely to lose a bunch of talented, hardworking staff. Its all been accounted for. At worst the results of a mass exodus will only impact their bottom line in a few years. They just need this years numbers to look good and line to go up.

There’s probably good stuff on SEA, Astrum, PBS Spacetime? even Cool Worlds. To a lesser extent perhaps even John Michael Godier or Isaac Arthur have lots of good information because even though they are Sci-fi channels, they do hard sci-fi, so all based on established science and astronomy.

I’d caveat that with watch reliable well researched channels and not pop-sci or even god forbid pseudoscientific, or pseudo-intellectual channels that seem helpful but are actually BS wrapped in foil.

Any of the PBS science channels are typically good for science.

The engineering mindset, practical engineering are great for engineering related stuff.

I was in Venice pre-covid. I spent a day walking around and soaking in the sights and sounds. Sat by myself for an hour listening to some guy play the chello. It was beautiful. Never got harassed by street peddlers or scammers unlike in Milan. The architecture was beautiful like nothing else. Its a city trapped in the Renaissance era.

I’d argue that the whole damn system was either corrupt or broken beyond repair. The fact that they “won” in the end and got to simply go on with their lives is pretty much evil winning out.

It would also have been a much more interesting story if they let Clyde win or escalated the havoc he unleashed even further. But it seems they ran out of ideas and or budget by the time they started wrapping up the final act. So that’s a second time evil wins again.

Banana Blight/Panama Disease.

All bananas are essentially clones as they have no seeds and banana trees are propagated from offshoots.

In the 1950s a fungus caused massive die off of banana trees leading to the effective death of the entire Gros Michel cultivar. We have overcome this set back by introducing the Canvendish cultivar which at the time was resistant to the fungus and was a commercially viable plant.

We now face a resurgence of the fungus which has found a way to infect the Canvendish cultivars. Being clones, they have no way to develop a defense as we can’t interbreed the banana plants to produce resistance to the fungus. This time round we don’t have a readily replaceable cultivar thats commercially viable if the Canvendish cultivar fails.

For reference the Gros Michel is still grown on a boutique scale and a 5 lbs box of Gros Michel bananas costs US$127 excluding shipping.
