  • I think the issue is moreso that you’re sending confidential health data to a 3rd party, which is where you lose control. You don’t know the intentions of people looking to steal that data, and you need to consider the worst possible outcome and guard against those. AI training is just one option. Get creative, what could you do with a doctor’s voice and their patient’s private medical history?

Simplest solution is to stop the arrangement until the company can prove data security on their end or implement an offline solution on local servers not connected to the internet.

  • Fully agree that this is a tool to use. But new tools eliminate jobs throughout human history. ICE eliminated a ton of blacksmithing jobs when you didn’t need so many horseshoes. Excavators eliminated groups of workers physically digging ditches.

Progress is good, it helps society, but it has a danger to leave behind the people which helped to create the system that eliminated their need. There needs to be a safety net or a transitional plan for these people to ensure we all continue to succeed. That doesn’t really exist in our current capitalist environment.

  • One single factor is never the source of a problem. It can be both things causing this.

Technology changes too fast today to plan for a 30 year career doing the same thing in a constantly changing world. Anyone with the skillet should take this as a beacon and pivot, whether keeping the skills fresh and branching out into new ventures with them (i.e. spend some time thinking, get a few peers, make a new product or service to sell to others instead of being cheap labour for someone else’s idea), or dropping the skills for another one that isn’t likely to get pulled out from under your feet suddenly.

I think we’ll need plumbers for a while still, and you can make over $100k/year never touching a shitty pipe.

  • What’s your work experience in? What are the goals for your career? What skills do you need for the career you want, are you actively working on developing them?

If you’re not sure, it’s a great time to consider what you’re competent at or enjoy, and do a realistic search of jobs in that field and the qualifications to get them. Best time to start is yesterday. 2nd best time to start is today.

Also, if you have some money saved, consider taking a skill and making money yourself instead of working for a wage. Lots of entrepreneurial info out there and ideas for those willing to take the risk on themselves. Some fields have very low barriers to entry… window washing, grass cutting, almost anything AI related right now, drop shipping, hell even a t-shirt printing business can be set up well for under $500

I recall a story of a pedophile being caught because they posted pictures using a radial warp on the face. It wasn’t too hard for enforcement to code a filter that undoes the radial warp, and instantly saw the original photo to identify and lock away the creep.
