I should probably look at unblocking the instances. I used those blocks early on to remove a massive number of communities I was uninterested in, but it has the side effect of also functionally blocking those users.

I do wish there were better tagging and filtering tools. Some of the communities I’ve blocked might have posts I’m interested in, but there’s currently no way to surface those from under the mountain of memes.

I’d also love to be able to block posts but not comments from specific users. There’s a handful of topics I don’t care about, and some of the blocked users are just very interested in those topics.

And auto collapse comments with inline images (although that’s more of an app feature than a Lemmy feature).

Yeah, a few seconds with a fork, and toasting the bread or swapping to crackers and you’re basically at something that’s fit to give to others again.

It’s somewhat bizarre to me that the settings menu isn’t just a reskinned control panel that either launches the new or old items depending on what they’ve finished so far.

I can’t imagine what they’ve done is easier than rewriting control panel items in full one by one.

You can do a halfway decent job of modernizing just by having an “advanced” toggle that shows the more arcane/less used settings.

I understand the desire to race towards a minimum viable product and get the core functionality into the glossy new thing, but they already had a minimum viable product in the control panel.

There are good sauces you can make from canned tomatoes in 20 minutes (depending on your prep speed).

My go tos are Putanesca & Vodka sauce, but there’s a lot more you can do. Mark Bittman’s How to Cook Everything has a simple recipe and then a big list of variants, most of which can be done in 20 minutes.

The decision to use Adobe suite is more likely to be a company wide decision. Part of Adobe suite lock-in is also familiarity making things faster. By promoting others, that may help future generations avoid at least part of the problem.

Google services may be much more piecemeal. Even if the boss personally happens to think there’s a productivity benefit to using a given search engine, it would be unusual to block others.

Practicing what you preach is sometimes important, but I’m not sure how much it bears on these issues. A single company eschewing either won’t make a difference. Getting the public to slowly consider alternatives may.

You’ve moved away from the part which specifies long-haul trucking. To my understanding this is an area where trains are a reasonable solution.

It’s a good feature, and probably makes sense to default to on. But I know I’ll find it more distracting than useful, so I’ll turn it off.

Large tooltips on mouseover are usually distracting. Facicons, text, and additional windows do enough to remind me what my tabs are.

New features often aren’t helpful to each and every user, but as long as I can turn off the ones that are actively unhelpful to me, I’m perfectly happy to see them.

Maybe they could transition to being a worker-owned collective when Gabe wants to retire. I’m not sure what else keeps Valve as we know it alive post Gabe.

It seems fine, with a few concerns.

The federated nature could become confusing, especially for new users. For example, I’m not sure how a new user is supposed to distinguish between: Games@sh.itjust.works and Games@lemmy.world This seems like a potentially worse version of reddit’s games vs gaming vs truegaming.

Also the lack of filtering options. Until I build up a reasonable amount of communities I’m subscribed to, I suspect I’ll be using All more, which doesn’t seem to have a simple way to do things like filter out all memes or just focus on text.
