  • Yeah it’s essentially a trigger. I have a few purposes. One is for my dumb washing machine plugged into an energy monitoring smart plug. After it registers the washing is done, I’ll get alerts through the house in intervals until I get up and scan the NFC tag on the washing machine (I forget to hang out washing.

As I’m in a rental and I can’t have smart switches so I have smart globes and put tags on the switches to toggle the lights.

One by my bedside table to turn off all the lights and smart plugs.

One on my front door to set my away from home scene.

I also have a signed band poster hung on the wall with one, which opens the album in Spotify.

    Good fun.

  • This is what I recently did with my grandparents. We thought their little old dog was ready to go and didn’t like to see her suffering. We asked the vet what to do, They do it every day and have the experience and knowledge to make these judgements. Really sorry yourself and pup are going through this. All the best.

  • I have Lidarr on Steroids to automate downloads. It uses Deemix to download automatically. Deemix will download in MP3 with a free Deezer subscription, but if you want FLAC you need the premium suscription, or the month trial.

In Lidarr you can import a spotify playlist and it will add all the artists for you, which then downloads through Deemix. You can even download the entire discography if you like. Plus extras like album art.

For streaming I use Airsonic from my PC, then the Substreamer app on my android for the front end. You can create playlists in here and can also download songs on your device for offline play.

When I’m done downloading the majority of my playlists Artists and want to get rid of the Deezer subscription, I’ll probably switch to Usenet and Soulseek to download.

It payed off today, we had a mobile/internet outage for most of the day and I was still able to stream music.

  • Thank you for all of this. You are right, I do have a set up currently. It’s an old repurposed amd PC which is fine for direct play but it stuggles to transcode. I want to use ErsatzTV which needs transcodng and it can’t handle it. It’s all set up through docker-compose on Linux Mint which has been fine so far (first Linux distro). You’ve gotten me quite interested in Unraid/OMV though.

Other containers I run are Immich, Mealie, Dozzle, Tubesync as well as the arr stack. Likely to run more containers (you know how it is). Current PC sits on about 10-12 GB ram.

I’m in Australia if that helps, little more pricey than US, harder to get parts and I definitely have had decision paralysis. in saying that though, all your comments have given me clarity for a plan.
