I hear good things about GrapheneOS but just stay away from it because of all the stranger. I love Olan’s.

1. Security / privacy on device: Don’t use devices / OS you don’t trust. I don’t see what difference on-device AI have at all here. If you don’t trust your device / OS then no functionality or data is safe.
2. Security / privacy in the cloud: The take here is that Apples proposed implementation is better than 99% of every cloud service out there. AI or not isn’t really part of it. If you already don’t trust Apple then this is moot. Don’t use cloud services from providers you don’t trust.

Security and privacy in 2024 is unfortunately about trust, not technology, unless you are able to isolate yourself or design and produce all the chips you use yourself.

All I have seen from security persons reviewing this is that it will probably be one of the best solutions of its kind - they basically do almost everything correctly, and extensively so.

They could have provided even more source code and easier ways for third parties to verify their claims, but it is understandable that they didn’t, is the only critique I’ve seen.

Yes definitely, Apple claimed that their privacy could be independently audited and verified; we will have to wait and see what’s actually behind that info.

Unless you are designing and creating your own chips for processing, networking etc, then privacy today is about trust, not technology. There’s no escaping it. I know iPhone and Apple is collecting data about me. I currently trust them the most on how they use it.

How so? Many people want to use AI in privacy, but it’s too hard for most people to set it up for themselves currently.

Having AI tools on the OS level so you can use it in almost any app and that is guaranteed to be processed on device in privacy will be very useful if done right.

All my devices and networks are constantly on VPN, it’s just basic obscurity, and it’s such a hassle posting on Lemmy now - my activity is probably down 90%.

Could you please consider allowing basic text posts and / or comments from behind a VPN? You could even disallow all markdown - that’s a decent trade off for my sake.

But please don’t just block all VPN usage if there are options you have not explored yet.

No it isn’t. He for example evaluate that Kagi and Marginalia get the same score if you have to read as far down as to the 10th result for Kagi, while Marginalia has no answer. How is that the same score? There is no explanation. There is a lot of text, and then in the end he has made some subjective choices.

Afaik most Tesla accidents are due to people not used to such a powerful car / acceleration and bump into stuff? I don’t think the majority of insurance cases for Tesla has anything to do with self driving.

For importing movies: two ways, depending on the state of your existing media.

1. Point Radarr to your media. It might detect everything. Radarr will let you set rules for file name and structure. Follow jellyfin guidelines. Then let Radarr reorganize your files to the new structure. Then import to Jellyfin
2. If it’s very disorganized, you might have to organize it according to the jellyfin guides yourself, or script it if you can, before importing to jellyfin.

There are some great designs ready for redesign of Finamp to make it much more modern, but development is fairly slow with limited resources. I think it’s currently in closed testing though.

lol that’s funny, didn’t know that was the cause for the latest LastPass breach. I just noped tf out of LastPass after that without looking back.

No I was just referring to their breach in August 2022 where I guess I was annoyed that they didn’t just invalidate/reset everyone’s password immediately. Instead, everyone had to try do to it on their servers, which couldn’t handle the traffic, so then a lot were either unable to reset password, unable to set new one, unable to reclaim server etc.

Also, when trying to calm us with mentioning everything they didn’t think was affected by the breach, it just made me realize that I’m done letting a company like Plex have all that data available to me.

Finally, they have to my knowledge still not acknowledged how the breach took place, just that they have taken steps to avoid it in the future.

From my experience, their communication about the last security breach was slow, lackluster and left me wanting. End result was that I did no longer trust them. In reality I may have been biased and already subconsciously made up my mind about their trustworthiness. Everyone have to make their own opinion and decisions.

Anywhere you have docker. I run it on my NAS.

Why I am not using Plex:

• It kept adding its own menu items / sections to my home screen with its shilled content like some annoying TV streams etc. Ever so often after updates etc it would keep adding it back
• It phones home
• Their servers has been hacked at least two times
• They dealt poorly with the hacks so I don’t trust them to know anything about my content or usage

Their last hack was the straw for me. I have a lifetime Plex Pass. I still refuse to use Plex anymore.
