This is about open-source being open.
tell that to the mods of !worldnews@lemmy.ml who ban you for disagreeing with them.

I think the fair thing to do, is to respond in the same scale (i. e. blocking specific users) instead of going all ballistic with instance blocks.
it’s not just random users, the mods of larger communities like !worldnews@lemmy.ml will delete your comments and ban you simply for disagreeing with them.
yep I got banned from there for simply stating that ukraine has a right to defend themselves after Modi called for “peace”. Apparently absolute pacifism is only required from one side.
yeah I’m sure there is a contract and/or standard legal processes that covers this situation. I’m just saying I wouldn’t rely on a casual interaction with a store manager to cover my ass legally, all for the benefit of putting Doom on a computer kiosk, or outright taking dozens of DVDs.
I’m also not sure “just ask the store manager if you can have it” is a good idea. It’s not theirs, and even though Redbox is going through bankruptcy it’s still an asset of the company that can be liquidated to pay debts. Most likely no one will want to buy them, but just seems like a silly risk for tinkering’s sake.
Instead of blocking, X advises that users take their account private, the antithesis to what X and its progenitor Twitter was about.
so basically remove your voice from the public sphere, giving the platform fully to the trolls and bullies.
This will also majorly affect professionals who must use twitter publicly for their job. Reporters, artists, PR people, etc. - they have all had to block abusive users over the years, so I think this may finally push them away to other platforms.
in my experience those are usually contracts you sign for a period of time. might not be able to get around that.
my LG is from 2021. it is a little tricky to opt out of everything because the various options are scattered in different places in the settings, but once I did all that it hasn’t bothered me.
you are everything that’s wrong with the internet.
sports news, get off your high horse.
i have a mastodon account but it’s completely useless for me.
the only thing i use twitter for is to follow updates and news from professional journalists and artists who are not on mastodon and likely will never be. if your job depends on twitter, switching to mastodon is not going to happen.
if i want to engage with random average people, i come here to lemmy.
true but also old reddit is awful to navigate on mobile.
then there are companies like yelp who disable their mobile site and make their desktop site as shitty as possible on mobile to force you to the app.
yeah same with me, except it’s just me and my wife. i think i just got service back.
might just be an inaccurate headline, I don’t think we know the exact order of things or when Verizon identified the issue.
I have no service at all, can’t get any kind of outgoing or incoming whatsoever. SOS only.
my wife and I both have iPhones. I have no service at all, hers seems to be fine.
exact same phones yeah.
It’s weird, my service has been dead, but my wife’s is just fine. So it doesn’t seem to be a geographical issue.
We have tried engaging in good faith, but they don’t WANT to hear us. For example, the mods of !worldnews@lemmy.ml (specifically https://lemmy.ml/u/OurToothbrush) ban for people for simply disagreeing with them. Happened to me and I’ve seen multiple others.
