The Guild’s core proposal is this: AI-generated material can’t replace a human writer. AI-generated material cannot qualify as source material for adaptation in any way. AI-generated work can be used as research material, just as a Wikipedia article could, but because of the unclear nature of the sources that go into its output and how the output is generated, it has no place as an “author” in the world of copyright. AI outputs are not, in the Guild’s opinion, copyrightable.

That means that if a studio wants to use an AI-generated script, there can be no credited author and no copyright. In a world where studios jealously guard the rights to their work, that’s a major poison pill.

I think this would be a decent compromise. It feels like the core of the AI art fight is really who can make money off of it.

This feels very prescient. Maybe there will be laws passed to compensate artists for feeding their work to an AI, but there’s no way companies will avoid using AI to do the heavy lifting.

The US State Department only just directed its employees to use Calibri for memos earlier this year. The State Department had been using Times New Roman instead since 2004. Given it’s taken them the full 16 years to switch over to Calibri, they’ll probably be waiting another decade or more to eventually switch to Aptos.

I don’t understand the comment that it’s not easy to use? The tagging system is probably the most functional one for discovering fandom or aesthetically grouped content.

The main gripes I gave are with the constant ui pushes to sign up for their app and their half assed way of dealing with nsfw content.

I like using KeePass and just syncing the password file between devices. Nobody can get open the file without at least the master password (you can use a key file as well), and it does 2fa.

I don’t like how restrictive the apple ecosystem is. I have an ipad because the android equivalents just weren’t doing the job, but use android and linux for my daily drivers. I feel like the adblockers aren’t effective, and I can’t sideload apps.

At least some of my goals are pretty straightforward lol. Travel-related goals really just require following the thread from beginning to end to figure out all the things you’ll need:

I’ve always wanted to see the northern lights. First I searched for tours to see where and when people tend to go. It basically split into Alaska or Scandinavian countries, and it was a lot cheaper for me to go to Alaska. I also found a place with large, skyward facing windows to allow for viewing from within a heated space, because I am not built for cold weather nonsense.

I’m no longer in school, so I like to travel off season. With a range of months in hand (auroras are best viewed from fall to early spring) I checked in with a friend to see if they wanted to come with (they did!), which further narrowed the date range. We found a package at a price point we both liked, booked flights that overlapped as much as possible, shopped for suitable cold weather clothes, figured out accommodations and necessary time off.

The first time I saw the light with my own eyes, I was actually surprised by how faint they were. They showed up way more strongly on my camera. But I really love astrological phenomena, so I spent most of the nights there bumbling around in the dark with my camera, fiddling with the long exposure settings, experimenting with various makeshift tripods (coat rack ended up being my favorite) and just laying back and watching the auroras while my friend was snoring away. I still remember one moment where the aurora was particularly strong, wiggling around in a large stripe across the sky directly above me.

People are trying to seed new communities with content, but i think they overdo it by copying too much stuff over at once
