  • Huh yea you’ve actually got a great point there. Also one of the YouTubers I watch is quite open about his knowledge on content creation and the algorithm and he once claimed yt knows when and to whom showing ads is beneficial, if you don’t mind sitting thru ads your supposedly more prone to get them, which is the reason why every time I’m using the official YouTube client for whatever reason I make sure to close and reopen the video as many times as it takes until I get it to start playing with no ads 😂 If that is true they’d def use that as an opportunity to roll out more ads cus no ones there to skip em

  • Take it this way, if 1 person pays 10$ a month for Spotify and gets about 50 hours of music out of it, it’s more beneficial for Spotify if a significant portion of that time is spent on music they pump into the playlists themselves, which costed them pennies to make, instead of having that user listen to real artists, that will ask for actual pay in exchange for their streams. They’re not paying a little bit to make alot, they’re paying a little bit to avoid paying even more. It’s basically average desk job employee outsourcing their work to indians who get like a dollar a day and are happy with it cus it’s their only option

fedora with gnome (fedora workspaces) is what i use rn :) used the xfce flavor, kde plasma one, and neither of them gave me everything i desired out of them like gnome did. gnome seems to have the leaast amount of small graphical bugs. also fedora is the shit overall, top 3 distros for sure.

  • dude helll yes i also just remembered theres that stupid barried of entry on many subs which ask u to meet really weird requirements to participate… the other day i prompted gpt to say smt funny and wholesome (it was praise towards the aur(arch user repository)) and tried to post it on some linux/arch sub but the first 3 that came to mind wouldnt allow it, one didnt accept memes, the other had a bot which took it down automatically and the third asked me to comment and participate in the sub before posting… like come on man.

  • yea i think one huge advantage is that theres no specific tos for lemmy as a whole and each instance can just do whatever they want which helps loads when it comes to censorship and moderation, and theres no 1 entity that can just skeet yo off the entire platform if u break some rule (great example is how reddit seems to be silencing ppl promoting lemmy and discussions ab it)
