I work in emergency management but I’ve always been interested in tech as a hobby. That led me to start self-hosting Plex on my desktop about 6-7 years ago. Now I’ve got a dedicated machine running unraid with about 20 to 30 different docker services.

I really enjoy being able to figure out how to setup a service and then being able to be fully in control of how it works. Beyond just enjoying tinkering with the system to learn, I enjoy being able to troubleshoot and fix problems without relying on large companies.

As others have pointed out, CloudFlare doesn’t sell .ca domain names due to the ownership restrictions applied by CIRA. I’ve personally used Web Hosting Canada (WHC.ca) for many years, including their hosting for a while. I also have a couple of domains with Register.ca.

I then use DuckDNS for dynamic updates and the free tier of CloudFlare for security certificates and some simple access rules.

Some of us don’t really have that luxury. For example, I don’t choose who I need to communicate with for work purposes.

I switched over to TickTick when Todoist suddenly changed their pricing model a few years ago. I don’t remember the specifics of what happened but I remember being very frustrated with the sudden changes as it would’ve required me to change my whole system.

I’ve been very happy with TickTick since then and would strongly recommend OP checks it out to see if it fits their needs.

For self hosting I’d recommend either one of the Meshify 2 or Define 7, depending on local price and your specific needs. I personally went with the Meshify 2 XL and was blown away by the quality of the case. It’s built well and allows for a variety of configurations. It also makes maintenance very easy as the filters and side panels can all be removed without any tool to handle dust build up.

As much as I love the projects I’m able to make with my Cricut, I know I won’t be getting another one when it eventually dies. Cricut’s software and approach to the customers is so awful.

Wish I’d heard about Silhouette before getting my machine but I’ve definitely learned my lesson now.

Scrubs completely captured what it feels like to work in healthcare. It’s the only medical TV show that I not only managed to finish but actually rewatch often.

I use it occasionally to try out games on gamepass that I’m not sure I’ll enjoy. I’ll usually play for about 30 minutes to an hour and then decide if I want to install it or just play something else.

I also occasionally use it on my steamdeck but that’s even less often.

Ah yes because a platform that is having an exodus of advertisers due to not wanting to be associated with its content will surely attract companies for employment related listings…

Pretty sure the current version on console is the PS4/Xbox One version and this will be a native PS5/Xbox Series version.

These look really great. Well done on iterating while still keeping the “sync feel”. I think the default logo should stay the reversed colours of the sync for Reddit logo but I would love to see some of these as alternate icons!

Only little note is that the bottom left should have 1 more purple leg (the one going straight up should be purple).

Personally I use it for a couple services that would be difficult to run separately (ie: deemix + lidarr). I’m also planning on moving all of my services with databases over to compose. I do lose a couple other QOL features but I still prefer this approach to start/stop all related containers instead of manually having to close each one.

That’s also because a lot of mods used the API to detect bots and other malicious users. These tools were removed so even if the mods didn’t leave, they are now significantly less effective.

I actually find that I use my phone less when I’m wearing my smartwatch than when I’m not. When notifications come in, I need to make sure it’s not work related or something else that requires my immediate attention. If I check a notification on my phone, I’m much more likely to end up doing something else at the same time. Whereas if I check my watch, I don’t have any incentive to do anything else.

It does vary from place to place but in North America at least, most often it’s that it will rain in __% of the land area.

Additionally, I would add that knowing about statistics at least allows you to understand that without that additional info, any stat is essentially meaningless, or at least easily misleading.

Which honestly has been one of my favourite features of Lemmy so far. I can browse All to see what everyone is talking about, I can browse Subscribed to see what I care about and I can browse Local to see what Canadians care about.

And when we are troubleshooting, we’ll be searching “crackpipe _____”… I can definitely think of a few scenarios where that’ll return very different results than expected.
