  • Summer I really make sure they’re in vac bags with indicating desiccant. Winter not so worried. I used to just not care but since getting an X1C with ams I’ve had a number of rolls of pla snap inside and trying to clear that out is annoying. Haven’t really had an issue sense although I have some esun pla+ that is incredibly brittle and will snap just looking at it.

  • It’s a bit overblown IMO. Unless you’re going wild with multi material it’s about the same as any other printer. Sure it purges a little even if you don’t change filament between prints but it’s still such a small amount. I found myself purging a little each time with my Prusa and Enders before too.

If you’re that worried don’t get an ams for multi color printing. Get an ams to reduce waste for automatic spool runout switching.

I think the biggest hurdle would be packing it away, putting it back together and recalibrating - that seems like it would get old fast. Someone’s already mentioned it but the ender 2 or prusa mini seem like best bet. That could be small enough you could take the gantry off and put into a foam case
