BIOS invading viruses are somewhat rare, but new shit is coming out all the time so I wouldn’t be surprised about them suddenly becoming popular. I guess flashing or resetting the bios could have helped. Anyway, good to see that it made you quit fedora (I shudder whilst typing the name). Always have positive takeaways 🙃

There are many ways you can get viruses, it might be because you added a less than good repo or for who knows what reason. Still not excluding errors on the part of fedora. Sucks though in any case.

You could just back up important data and do a fresh install, right? I would just put the stuff right back (as always: I guess do as I say not as I do) and go about my life, if you are paranoid you can wait a few months for security updates and or use virtualisation.

Fonts changing to red is sort of weird. I would think that system fonts might be reset in the case I was talking about. What is much more worrying than that is the USB fuckery. Could still be something completely innocuous. Maybe open a Github issue?

You know you can build Qubes from source right? You know you have checksums? Do you know how difficult it is to compromise something like fucking Qubes, thee OS built by people who spend upwards of 12 hours a day obsessing about cyber security? There are too many eyes on it. I wouldn’t deny the damage caused by chatbot use, nor would I deny there being a culture of yes-men. These things are symptoms though, not causes. The question I think is important is “why are people this way?” and I don’t believe it can really be sufficiently answered by considering individual psychology or looking at small scale workplace dynamics.

The US government, federal and local, is much better at unifying data streams at this point time than it ever was. Flock came to fill the hole. Of course you’re going to get yes-men when such a big opportunity presents itself.

Arms manufacturing is also deeply unpopular. Arms manufacturers know this. They still do what they are doing fully aware about every implication, no culture of yes men needed in my opinion.
