  • For a while I was skipping lunch or eating junk food due to work pinning me down for 80 hours a week. I wanted something fast but healthy and not expensive. Prepared meals cost too much, delivery apps only raise the price.

I had heard of soylent before and found ready-to-drink was available at Target. Not bad, but not good. Too sweet for me. After looking into these things more I eventually settled on Mana as they seemed to be the most focused on nutrition and constantly improving their product. I’ve been getting their powder by subscription ever since to replace one meal a day (usually breakfast). Comes out to less than 5 minutes and $2 a day. It’s borderline bland, which makes it easy to have fun with. Add chocolate powder, some mango juice, or leftover coffee from the French press, whatever to break out of the “I’m only eating this for sustenance” monotony.

  • I don’t know all the other apps listed here but I do know last I looked Nine was the only one that actually had Exchange ActiveSync support. ActiveSync is a licensed protocol so you won’t find it supported in a free app, open source or not, not without some alternative monetization that compromises your privacy. Nine has no ads and doesn’t run through their cloud. It also optionally isolates the security model to the app so remote wipe and other employer policies don’t apply to your OS. I also didn’t want the corporate address book integrated with my personal one, and it lets me keep that separate, too.

  • Me too! The older I get the more I find fixing things is not as common as I thought. Just the other day I was at a friend’s place and they were struggling opening a window. Five minutes later it was fixed. The sash spring fell off, super simple fix. They were cursing at it for months without any effort to figure it out, but that’s most people it seems.
