Used or owned? I own one and bought several for my company and they’re not useless at all. They’re just limited in the AR/VR experiences you can do right now. As a computer, productivity, and production device, it’s far from useless.

I don’t think they could, at least not in the timeframe provided by the EU. That’s the entire (and only) reason they’re reverting to the existing implementation. The existing law, as written, doesn’t seem to apply to PWAs.

Yes, it is. The only change being made is that WebKit home apps are being allowed. Since Apple couldn’t create the Home app frameworks for third party apps, they disabled all of them to comply with the new rules. This just means that, unless the EU says otherwise, Home Screen WebKit apps are still ok without needing to open to third-party engines. This is a non-story as that is already the currently released functionality and the change was only made because Apple was attempting to be conservative with its compliance.

Just because people don’t know where Pontiac is doesn’t mean it’s suddenly the same thing as Detroit, especially when we’re discussing food from that specific city.

I mean… Pontiac is not Detroit so yeah. If you haven’t even heard of the original Detroit Pizza, Shield’s, then you’re not a born and raised Detroiter. You’re a born and raised “Pontiacan”.

And no, what makes it a Detroit-style pizza isn’t just that it’s cooked in the square dish (which was originally an oil or drip pan). A classic Detroit-style pizza is cooked in the square, deep dish with the sauce under and on top of the cheese. It’s called a red top and the sauce is added in strips. I don’t need to take or leave anything. I’m not taking lessons on Detroit pizza from someone who wasn’t even born and raised in Detroit.

I don’t believe you. I’m also born and raised in Detroit and you’re only faking being a Detroiter if you haven’t had Jet’s Pizza, Buddy’s Pizza, or Nikki’s Pizza in Greektown. All 3 places are well-known in the metro area for their pizza and all 3 of them serve it sauce on cheese. That’s what makes a Detroit Pizza a Detroit Pizza. There’s also Shield’s Pizza which is also sauce on cheese but they weren’t in “Detroit” proper for years until 2019 (even though they originally opened in Detroit).

Edit: Shield’s and Buddy’s are the original Detroit pizzas. Anyone who tells you they know anything about Detroit pizza that hasn’t tried them is lying to you.

The only places I’ve heard of that have the balls to speak their names in proximity to NYC and Chicago are Detroit and New Haven, CT.

Detroit Pizza is fucking great, especially with extra sauce and I haven’t had New Haven pizza but have been told it’s too big of a range to say that it’s all good pizza.

I think the point is just to say that you can.

As someone with an Index, I’m interested in this because it doesn’t need the lighthouses. The fact that the index can only work in one place in my house without needing mount points severely limits its usefulness to me.

It’s not about whether it competes. It’s about whether a “reasonable person” could confuse it for being an authorized product of the IP owner. In this case, people could confuse it with both a licensed Nintendo product (since it runs on original hardware) and it could be confused with an official Valve release (since the content is an exact (as possible) recreation of the levels and assets from the original game.

That’s not the only problem, I think. It’s not an adaptation of their work, it’s a “demake” which means it uses original source files or, at best, exact recreations of that work. The other projects people are comparing this to adapted Valve’s work to make something original. This isn’t original and uses the existing name. It would be very easy for Valve to make the claim that this product could be confused as an official Valve product even if most people who are interested would know the difference or be able to tell.

I think people are missing the fact that most fanmade content that Valve has historically been ok with is all original material. Black Mesa, Portal Stories, and others all used the Valve IP but were all original content. This port actually uses Valve-created content so, regardless of Nintendo’s involvement (although it makes the demand for this action stronger), they legally have to enforce it or risk losing the legal protections for that property.

Nintendo just gave them a convenient way to stop it before they needed to do it anyways.

It took Microsoft 98 attempts the first time! Then it took them an entire Millennium. Then 2000 attempts after that. And then after 12 more attempts, they’ve decided they need to change the keyboard… I’d say #14 ain’t too bad.
