  • I have to say I haven’t looked into RPI history, I only remember a video where they were marketing a device that is affordable and very much suitable for learning programming, mostly aimed at kids. Remembering that and seeing them now on the exchange kinda leads to a contradiction in my mind. Especially since a year ago you couldn’t even buy a device if you had the money, let alone if you couldb’t afford one as they intended at the beginnings.

  • And this is why lemmy will never get close to what reddit was. On top of the cumbersome registration process and difficulty of navigating the fediverse for the non-tech people, there is also the issue of de-federation and censorship. This is no better then reddit unfortunately. It makes me sad, this really seemed like a good idea, but the implementation is so poor.

People were saying it won’t matter what instance you choose, everything is federated and you choose what you want to see, but clearly the instance admins make that choice for you and it absolutely does matter the instance you choose.

  • Payment on delivery is still very much a thing here. Literally all food delivery allows it.

The majority of online retailers allow it too, though some of them charge the equivalent of ~1€ if you do choose it.

I prefere using it when I don’t know much about the store or if I know the store is too big to care about their customers and I had orders being delayed by them in the past. It’s in their best interest to deliver it asap if they didn’t get the money yet.

Also, it makes it a hell of a lot easier to deal with goods damaged during shipping, if the box is damaged you just refuse it and don’t have to wait x amount of days to get the money back into your account.
