Yup, can understand if your library is small, but for bigger libraries that’s definitely the most inconvenient thing you can do.
Speaking from experience because I was basically forced to do it that way when I didn’t have regular internet access yet. My library was longer than 50 days. Just Hip-Hop alone was above 100GB.
I used to find a shitton of music that way, but the inconvenience was real. Worst was music that I had to tag myself for example. Love mp3tag but that’s shit.
The crazy part about it is, that even if every instance blocked everyone, you could always host your own instance and I think if you host one just for yourself and maybe a few friends or something it probably wouldn’t even cost a cent.
Lemmy.world is the biggest lemmy instance, it makes sense that they attract everyone even those type of people. They don’t understand the concept of distribution, of course they’re gonna go where the number is largest. I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s the admins fault for the people that went there.
“Though a 1/4 of a Burger may be bigger in their eyes than a 1/3 of that same Burger, the ingredients stay the same.” - Winston Churchill
Difference 2 is it’s not really powermodding. At least not from the way I personally understand powermodding. Imo powermodding is when a mod decides to get rid of content they personally just don’t like.
In this case they got rid of a big risk to the instance itself, because, if someone decided to upload pirated content on here it would get federated to all instances that haven’t blocked the one initially distributing such content. Like another user said on this topic, this could be compared to torrenting, only without the direct P2P distribution. The risk of course falls on the people hosting the instances.
Since they host these instances pretty much for free aside of donations, that are not a requirement, and the fact that, like nanometer said, you can just choose not to be part of the instance (and register to another instance), I wouldn’t put blame on the admins of lemmy.world in this case.
This is the best comparison I have ever read my eyes just peaked reading that thank you very much!
Wasn’t Brave always known to be shady in one way or the other? Which is why I never get why people say “remove Chrome get Brave” in 2023.
No, I mean his fanbois. His employees would get paid to do that stuff and then there would also again be a way for him to bear the consequences. His fanbois don’t get paid and he doesn’t bear the risk.
He’d be. But his fanbois already do that for him so he doesn’t have to do it himself and worry about consequences.
I hate how these types of sad people with excuses for a life actually exist.
I express no sympathy at all towards them because these are the people because of whom we can’t have nice things, they are undeserving of sympathy.
If they wanted my sympathy for their sociopathy they should go to therapy instead of wasting their time destroying everything that brings even the slightest amount of joy to others just because they can’t feel joy themselves and can’t handle other people and communities thriving.
Fuck LMAO and his ilk.
Super Mario Sunshine was my childhood game pretty much. Still have my Gamecube but no TV/Monitor that wants to connect to it or display anything.
(Hab 15+ Automod Nachrichten erhalten lol). Posts sind auch alle weg.
The spez cucks are in full action on the r/technology repost, as usual.
I think if you want something aesthetic you could give Garuda Linux a try/look it’s based on Arch linux but not as complex as far as I remember. I used it for a while on my laptop. They also got a suite that should ease gaming.
I don’t even bother to reply to these type of people anymore I just downvote them and get on with it because I know arguing with them is the biggest waste of time, have already done it enough (I can see the hypocrisy coming from me posting a whole rant about them but I thought that would be more worth my time).
Yes! When the blackout was first announced I wanted to go over there and see them supporting it asap I don’t remember the early reception anymore since I don’t even remember what happened yesterday but the only stuff that I remember is mostly in favor of the Reddit Administration and not the protest which is EXTREMELY weird for a piracy subreddit.
It’s not even the decentralization hate that surprises me the most, it is the support for big corpo that surprises (and disappoints) me the most.
But yeah gotta agree with the last point, quality over quantity.
I’m not even sure what they’re mad about though because the last few times that I actively took part in r/piracy the top posts at least were always memes instead of useful information and otherwise the megathread has many backups on different locations as well as fmhy which has its own website.
They don’t lose access to ish no matter the protest. But given their ignorance I can see how they could think that.
They’re not even contrarian they’re just ignorant and they love it. You can present them facts all day long and they just never learn or at least try to understand. I didn’t even bother replying to the people that replied to me on that comment thread I mentioned because it’s just a waste of time.
Second point is true for the most part most people that would leave of course have already left either abstaining from social media (or at least Reddit) or coming over here.
I will never understand the people that support what Reddit does though I actually do not see the downside to protesting for the greater good aside of not being able to chow down on repost fodder for a while until Reddit gets their act together. They’re actively hurting themselves, I’m very sure that the loss of 3rd party apps sooner or later will have an effect on even the people that dare use the official app (If Reddit has a monopoly of Reddit apps why should they waste their resources improving that app).
It’s bribe, not bet.
