Hey man, I’m willing to be honest about what I do. I’m not entitled to consume that media just because it exists, and I’m not going to beat around the bush about that.
I don’t really understand why you’re comparing these two things? One is a group of people refraining from consumption of certain goods for personal reasons - health, ethics, climate impact, whatever. The other is a group of people consuming arguably more goods than they (we tbh) deserve since we’re not willing or able to pay for it for one reason or another.
A better analogy would be comparing piracy to… I don’t know, a veg-eater of whatever type who still enjoys the taste of bacon and resorts to stealing it because it’s better to hurt the meat industry than to pay? It’s a product that person really doesn’t really need and absolutely would have never paid for, yet the person still wants it and obtains it in a way that hurts the industry.
(The analogy doesn’t hold up since stealing physical goods has a different impact than distributing digital copies, but it’s the best I’ve got off the cuff)
E: okay, after reading your other comments, I’m both confident this didn’t address the point you wanted and confident I don’t really understand your deal well enough to do so. Both of these groups have some members who have a problem with industry practices and others who are into their chosen lifestyle for other reasons. It seems like you’ve made some odd decisions about which groups are most prevalent among each and are framing your premise around that, and I don’t think we’re going to see eye-to-eye on it when the premise is Like This.
Or are you trying to say veganism should be more widely accepted because “DRM is wrong” is roughly equivalent to “animal suffering is wrong” re: “industry bad”?
Corrected archive link - OP's is missing a character so it's not working
You have to understand that most accounting departments treat month-end with the same gravity as year-end. My job’s accounts payable department starts sending month end deadline reminders on the 15th. It’s absurd how much they focus on it.
(This is not an excuse for their abhorrent treatment of an employee, mind you, but it might help explain the twisted logic behind “end of July” possibly working against her.)
Hey, thanks for that link! I’m really glad to have the details so I can verify for myself.
However, with that, I can REALLY confirm this is not an issue inherent to the DODI repack. DODI’s is what I’m using and I have none of that on my system – I checked with that powershell command, then also followed along with the comments to check other files and scheduled tasks that were mentioned.
That said, I got my download from torrentleech. I suspect a tainted version of the repack got onto certain other sites. It wouldn’t be the first time (which is why I specify trusted sites and uploaders in addition to release groups).
For the RUNE release, it probably has more to do with what AV they’re using and how sensitive it is. Cracked games flag AVs all the time, you have to pay attention to what it’s alerting you about. If you’re being careful and clean about the sites, uploaders, and release groups you trust, that “trojan” is usually nothing more than an injected hook to defeat DRM.
The DODI repack is based on the RUNE release which I believe is clean. Another commenter claims a found Trojan but there are others who found nothing, and imo it’s probably just the usual crack shenanigans.
Edit: See replies! It seems there are tainted versions of the repack out there, but there are clean ones too. Remember to keep a critical eye on your sites and uploaders in addition to your release groups. There’s a useful link in a reply to me below showing what you might see if you’ve downloaded a bad one.
Elon thinks all you need to do is change the site CSS and maybe do a press release, and he’s famous enough that the rest will just take care of itself.
x.com already redirects to twitter. I suspect that will be changed to the other way around soon enough (twitter redirecting to x)
See, the problem here is that you’re treating an off-the-cuff casual explanation as a “thesis.” Please don’t bring this absurd habit over here, where people have to feel compelled to cover absolutely every interpretation and hedge every outlier for fear of getting nitpicked to hell and back. Literally no one enjoyed that environment.
The presence or absence of that single word doesn’t change the fact that nothing OP said was wrong eh ;P
So I think super like is misleading
It’s literally not. Over here, on top of the “repost to your profile under your boosts section” functionality it’s intended to have, it also counts as 2x rep for the poster. It really, truly is also a “super-like.”
What conditions are you imagining in which a donor is living but not aware of specifically who would be receiving the organ before agreeing? Tests need to be done to ensure compatibility, and a kidney is a lot to ask and probably wouldn’t be agreed to unless it helps a loved one.
I feel like this is a strange premise whose goal is trying to try to move the line little by little until people are willing to say they’re a little bit racist/sexist. Or until people are willing to admit they don’t think others should have control over decisions made about their bodies. Be honest about your ends here instead of dreaming up fictions that make so little sense the answers are unproductive.
Firefly, short (sadly) and never not fun
First 5 seasons of Supernatural, when they had a story to tell and not an IP to milk
Last 3~4 seasons of Deep Space Nine, after the focus shifted from the soap opera to the war
Fate/Zero and Unlimited Blade Works, often as familiar background noise when I’m not able to 100% pay attention, like a security blanket
Persona 5, faster than a replay of the game and the main character actually gets to talk
You’re not wrong, but running Linux directly correlates to more time spent on “tech forums in general,” so it’s still a bigger problem with that OS than others imo.
There’s this amazing chicken enchilada soup I’ve had whose ingredients include a whole pack of this stuff (specifically in Velveeta form, but it’s the same stuff). Best damn soup I’ve ever tasted.
I think it’s done more good than harm and don’t want to see them anonymized again… but I do have to say I’ve found myself withholding a downvote that I think was completely deserved because I didn’t want to be the first and only one and get shit for it.
That’s absolutely the worst help forum experience, when you’re asking one question but everyone extrapolates the question they think you REALLY meant to ask and talks down to you about it.
And of course if you try to steer the conversation back to your actual question, you get painted as the unreasonable one placing all sorts of conditions on the generous free help others are allowed to bestow upon you.
The less reliance on others Linux requires, the better off it will be for general adoption.
I still can’t really agree that the comparison holds; we try harder in real life because the bar for being a dick is (usually) higher. On the internet, when all it takes is a few easy sentences to be a dick to a faceless stranger whose reaction we don’t have to see… to me, the response should be equally fluid, else we get bogged down being the only one putting in the effort and taking a constant beating to our self-esteem when we wonder why no one is bothering to hear us.
However, I appreciate you being chill about clearing up what you meant. I did initially miss the comparison you were going for and feel like I was getting cereal box therapy about not cutting people off when that wasn’t what you meant.
Cheers back.
Okay but seriously, what is this pedantry even? I wasn’t trying to put forth some all-encompassing thesis of every reason people might pirate, nor do I accept that “needs to be in on all the current memes” is some reason one is entitled to media. And neither point has anything to do with the discussion we’re having with OP.
Bizarre as heck tangent.
