This is great info, thank you so much! That definitely gives me more things to consider

Damn, that really sucks, I’m sorry :(
Very interesting, thanks!
I do agree that the lack of a headphone jack absolutely kills me. It’s a reason I haven’t pulled the trigger either way on a new phone yet. On the one hand, I want a secure degoogled phone that maintains a lot of functionality with GOS. On the other, I want a modern phone with a headphone jack a la Sony. I go back and forth constantly.
Have people forgotten about the used market? Buying things second hand is the way.
Why not buy a used one? I plan on picking one up from ebay or something.
Would you mind elaborating?
Fair enough, thanks for chiming in and correcting me! I’ll remove mine too, so it’s not overly antagonistic in an inappropriate place (though I do think what I said was accurate, just not the place to discuss it, haha)

I have a surface duo 2 right now, and had the Motorola razor (rip the iconic chin design they ditched with the new models) before that. Emulating the ds on a flip phone is goated
Is there a master list of apps that do this, I wonder?
Okay, thanks for clearing that up for me! Good to know graphene is still worth getting into :)
Yeah, apple is always teetering on that fence where on the one side, they’re a Corpo and want to sell your data, but on the other side their whole draw and the logic behind being a walled garden is the privacy aspect for their users. If they drop the privacy draw, then why would some users want to stay in a walled garden
But no one is investing billions into your dog’s shit, are they?
Right, but not Graphene, though, right? The whole draw of Graphene is that it’s relatively easy and android-feature complete, no?
Did you read the post…? It seems like Google is starting to fuck with app access, unless I’m misunderstanding?
Well. I was literally considering getting a pixel fold in the next few days to give grapheneOS a try. I guess I won’t now? What other good options are there for a (mostly) casual who wanted minimal fiddling and maximum privacy? Just switching back to iPhone?
Like others are saying, the .ml instance was nuked and it kinda killed the community on lemmy :/ That was where my first account was, so that sucked
I would definitely urge you to consider what @Dark_Arc is saying. I was one of the kids they’re talking about, whose parents micromanaged all internet access and didn’t end up doing well. Obviously you know what’s best for your family, but as a product of that environment, it hindered me more than helped. I would hate for you to be doing all the work you’re doing trying to keep them off of what you deem inappropriate, too, when it doesn’t really help in the long run.
Just something to consider.
It is possible to replace them, with a little research. Or just taking them to a phone repair shop if you’re too anxious for that
