  • (…) and would accomplish . . . what exactly?

It would move China’s adversary further from its shores. Just like how America doesn’t like Cuba being right there, with its rival politico- economic system, China doesn’t like Taiwan being right there with its rival politico- economic system.

    China wants TSMC

I agree that they want TSMC, but I think Taiwan’s semi conductor disablement plan has more to do with guaranteeing international support for Taiwan than reducing the incentives for Chinese annexation of Taiwan.

What I mean is that Beijing can’t say to the world “this is an internal disagreement that doesn’t concern you” because if TSMC goes up in smoke the global economy is going to bottom out, it concerns everybody’s economy. The fact that Beijing can’t just seamlessly assume control of Taiwan means that the international community will not support that ambition. It’s like Real Politik, but with semiconductors.

Ironically USA initiatives to protect itself from the vulnerability of Taiwan by (re?)patriating chip production will be bad for Taiwan’s security… if they ever actually manage to rival TSMC’s Taiwanese production. I say this because it will demote the conflict from one of global interest to just regional interest.

But that’s all just my arm chair speculation, I don’t actually have any idea what I’m talking about.

  • Your explanation makes sense to me, an uninvolved spectator with no particular knowledge of generators.

Maybe you direct the generator exhaust over the exterior of the tank? Would that be adequate heat?

My thought was to recall that my 20# propane tank has some sort of safety valve integrated into it that will clamp outflow if there is too big a surge in flow. Flow needs to be 0 for a minute or so for it to reset. But that doesn’t explain your experience with the larger tank.

  • The most recent phone I purchased does not a 3.5mm jack. It wasn’t really a decision I realized I was making, as the phone’s previous iteration had had it in an era when that wasn’t a given.

There have been a few times that I’ve missed it, not many, certainly fewer than 10 never a huge deal. But that’s infinitely more times than I’ve thought:

I’m so glad my phone doesn’t have a headphone jack.

Next phone will definitely have one because honestly

    yeah I might use that

Is enough justification to spend $0.25 (if that) for them to integrate a jack. What stupid cost cutting.

  • I hear that biking in the snow isn’t actually bad. This is hearsay because it doesn’t snow much where I am.

You wear your winter coat and snow pants, and get studded tires.

You don’t have to worry about getting stuck going up an icy hill (because if its too icy to drive up, you can walk up it), granted not likely to be a problem in Wisconsin.

You don’t have to worry about getting stuck due to low clearance (like the snow between the ruts that hatchbacks and minivans get stuck on) because you can just pick up your bike.

Also if a pedestrian slips while crossing the road, you probably won’t kill them if you can’t stop in time.

I guess the wind could be intense. What’s your experience been?
