Yes I second all of this. If you dont want to self-host, Nextcloud hosted on some external server is the way forward. Nextcloud is incredibly versatile. It’s my music collection, photo collection, agenda, contacts, file sync, location tracker and much more.
If you put your maildir on a (disk attached to a) raspberry pi, install mutt, and make that pi accessible by ssh you always have access to your mail.

YSK that the number of users that is shown in the community overview is the numbers of users from your instance that are subscribed. So in your case that is reddhat.online. (Doesn’t mean that the communities you’re linking to are big, but it does mean that you’re not seeing the full picture. There are places that do contain more general information, like https://browse.feddit.de/.
Nope. Unfortunately doesn’t change anything.
For me it does not work yet. It stopped crashing, but now when I open the app and try to log in, the logging in seems to stop halfway. No fail or success, it just stops. After that, I do see the list of communities I subscribed to, but no content. When I refresh it says “connection error”.
Thanks for pointing this out. The level of misguidedness is painful.
